A Rare Case of Recurrent Renal Infarcts With Unique Etiologies in Different Kidneys Occurring Six Years Apart.

Renal infarcts are uncommon, difficult to diagnose, and can lead to long-term kidney disease. Because they have numerous etiologies and patients may present with nonspecific symptoms, renal infarcts may be mistaken for other common conditions. A 50-year-old woman presented to the emergency department (ED) with flank pain, nausea, and vomiting.

Nurse Perceptions of Barriers to Infection Prevention and Control in Labor and Delivery.

Objective: To identify nurse perceptions of barriers to performing recommended infection prevention and control practices in labor and delivery to inform future resources tailored to this setting.

Burkholderia multivorans Infections Associated with Use of Ice and Water from Ice Machines for Patient Care Activities - Four Hospitals, California and Colorado, 2020-2024.

Ice machines can harbor water-related organisms, and the use of ice or tap water for clinical care activities has been associated with infections in health care settings. During 2021-2022, a total of 23 cases of infection by Burkholderia multivorans (sequence type ST659) were reported at two southern California hospitals and linked to contaminated ice and water from ice machines. CDC consultations related to ophthalmic practices and settings, January 2016-December 2023.

Consultations with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion revealed patient harms associated with ophthalmic care. Adherence to core infection prevention and control principles, tailored guidance for ophthalmic settings, and compliance with manufacturing and compounding standards could decrease adverse events and patient exposures to contaminated products.
