Organization of Psychological and Psychiatric Assistance to Refugees in a Prolonged Emergency.

The article describes the experience of organizing psychological and psychiatric assistance to refugees in temporary accommodation centers (TACs). From 1999 to 2004, about 200,000 people, fleeing military operations during the counter-terrorist operation in the Chechen Republic, moved to neighboring Ingushetia, where they were placed in TACs. Analysis of the work with refugees shows that during a long stay in the TAC, refugees develop psychopathological and psychological issues including stress disorders, irritability, aggressiveness, disorders of adaptive functions, depression, anxiety, decreased initiative, "victim" complex, and damaged interpersonal relationships that significantly reduce their adaptive capabilities.

Outcomes of an individual counselling programme in Grozny, Chechnya: a randomised controlled study.

Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of individual counselling on functioning of clients participating in a mental health intervention in a humanitarian setting.

Design: Randomised controlled trial.

Setting: Mental health programme implemented by Médecins Sans Frontières in Grozny, Republic of Chechnya.

Mental health problems among conflict-affected adults in Grozny, Chechnya: a qualitative study.

Background: A decade of conflict in Chechnya destroyed infrastructure and resulted in widespread exposure to violence. Amidst substantial reconstruction, periodic violence has contributed to an ongoing atmosphere of insecurity. We conducted a qualitative study to understand the mental health and psychosocial problems affecting adult Chechens in this context to inform development of assessment tools for an evaluation study related to individual counseling.

[Clinical/dynamic and epidemiological aspects of depressive disorders in the protracted emergency situation].

Objective: Depressive disorders are one of the most frequent forms of mental pathology developed in protracted emergency situations. Depression develops independently or comorbid to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Material And Methods: Authors conducted a population study of the dynamics of depressive disorders in people lived in the area of combat actions in the Chechen Republic.
