[Appendicular plastron: emergency or deferred surgery: a series of 27 cases collected in the surgical clinic of the Aristide Le Dantec Hospital].

Our study aimed to evaluate the outcome of the surgical treatment of appendicular plastron after deferred or emergency appendectomy. We conducted a retrospective, descriptive study of 27 patients treated for appendicular plastron from January 2000 to 31 December 2007. Diagnosis was based on clinical examination showing a mass in the right iliac fossa, on ultrasound or made intraoperatively.

Is universal HBV vaccination of healthcare workers a relevant strategy in developing endemic countries? The case of a university hospital in Niger.

Background: Exposure to hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains a serious risk to healthcare workers (HCWs) in endemic developing countries owing to the strong prevalence of HBV in the general and hospital populations, and to the high rate of occupational blood exposure. Routine HBV vaccination programs targeted to high-risk groups and especially to HCWs are generally considered as a key element of prevention strategies. However, the high rate of natural immunization among adults in such countries where most infections occur perinatally or during early childhood must be taken into account.

Amyand's hernia with perforated appendix in a neonate.

Inguinal hernia with acute appendicitis known as Amyand's hernia is uncommon. It occurs mostly in adults, older children and infants. The appendix inside the hernial sac is rarely perforated.

Clinical efficacy and tolerability of tenoxicam in African patients with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, tendinitis and/or bursitis: an open study.

An open clinical evaluation was carried out in 736 African out-patients suffering from rheumatic and inflammatory disorders to assess the efficacy and tolerability of tenoxicam in relieving the signs and symptoms of their condition. On entry, all previous treatment was discontinued and patients received a simple daily dose of 20 mg tenoxicam orally for 15 days in the case of those with rheumatoid arthritis or tendinitis, or for 30 days in those with osteoarthritis. Paracetamol was allowed as a rescue analgesic.
