Work in many systems has shown large-scale changes in gene expression during aging. However, many studies employ just two, arbitrarily-chosen timepoints at which to measure expression, and can only observe an increase or a decrease in expression between "young" and "old" animals, failing to capture any dynamic, non-linear changes that occur throughout the aging process. We used RNA sequencing to measure expression in male head tissue at 15 timepoints through the lifespan of an inbred strain.

We present a six-step cascade that converts 1,3-distyrylbenzenes (-stilbenes) into nonsymmetric pyrenes in 40-60% yields. This sequence merges photochemical steps, ,-alkene isomerization, a 6π photochemical electrocyclization (Mallory photocyclization); the new bay region cyclization, with two radical iodine-mediated aromatization steps; and an optional aryl migration. This work illustrates how the inherent challenges of engineering excited state reactivity can be addressed by logical design.

Objective: There is a dearth of research on neuropsychological functioning and the validity of assessment measures in American Indian (AI) older adults. The present study sought to comprehensively examine neuropsychological functioning in cognitively normal AI older adults in the southwestern USA (i.e.

Culture-independent diagnostics for fungi potentially offer increased sensitivity and more rapid results relative to culture. Recent developments include new platforms for fungal cell wall antigen detection, commercially available targeted nucleic acid amplification tests, and the use of sequencing-based technologies for the detection and identification of a broad range of fungal pathogens. Although these tests are not without limitations, many more commercially available platforms now exist, and efforts to increase the standardization of laboratory-developed tests are ongoing.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study introduces enhanced modeling techniques for neutrino flux and detector response, and it distinguishes between starting (inside) and throughgoing (outside) neutrino interaction events to improve energy resolution.
  • * The findings indicate a best-fit point for the 3+1 model with sin²(2θ_{24})=0.16 and Δm_{41}²=3.5 eV², supporting previous studies while showing consistency with no evidence of sterile neutrinos, as reflected
