The seaweed Cystoseira trinodis was fermented by different fungi prior to extraction of fucoidan and alginate to enhance their antioxidative potential. All the investigated fungi were able to produce fucoidanase (1.05-3.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAgarase is a promising biocatalyst for several industrial applications. Agarase production was evaluated by the marine fungus Dendryphiella arenaria utilizing Palisada perforata as a basal substrate in semi-solid state fermentation. Seaweed biomass, glucose, and sucrose were the most significant parameters affecting agarase production, and their levels were further optimized using Box-Behnken design.

Box-Behnken experimental design was evaluated to study the influence of alkali:alga ratio, temperature and time on alginate yield, and its molecular weight (MW) and mannuronic/guluronic acid ratio (M/G). The second-order polynomial equations were analyzed by appropriate statistical methods.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the short- and long-term outcome after stapled hemorrhoidopexy compared with the Milligan-Morgan procedure in a homogeneous patient population with circumferential third-degree hemorrhoids.
Background: Surgical procedures in pancreatic surgery are well established, but still involve time-consuming manual dissection. We compared the use of LigaSure with conventional dissection techniques in pancreatic surgery in a prospective randomised single-centre trial (registration number: NCT00850291).
Methods: Patients with tumours of the pancreatic head that were assumed to be technically resectable were randomised to LigaSure or conventional surgery.
