Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound for the Acute Evaluation and Management of Soccer Players.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound (US) has many applications in the care of athletes. This article reviews the current literature and identifies research gaps regarding musculoskeletal US in the athletic training room setting to evaluate and manage soccer players. The best evidence for US in the training room setting is for diagnosis and prognosis of muscle injuries, where studies show that it is equivalent to other imaging modalities.

The past few decades have delivered significant improvements in diagnosis and treatment of cancer, however, despite these improvements cancer continues to be a major global health issue requiring the urgent development of new strategies for treatment. Stress granules are cytoplasmic structures that triage gene expression in response to environmental stresses, including chemotherapies, and have been implicated in the development of drug resistance. One novel approach to developing a new anti-cancer strategy involves inhibiting stress granules with compounds derived from natural products.

Fracture clinic redesign: improving standards in patient care and interprofessional education.

Introduction: Current fracture clinic models, especially with the advent of reductions in junior doctors' hours, may limit outpatient trainee education and patient care. We have designed a new fracture clinic model, involving an initial consultant-led case review focused on patient management and trainee education.

Methods: Prospective outcomes for all new patients attending the redesigned fracture clinic over a 3-week period in 2010 (n = 240) were compared with a historical cohort from the same period in 2009 (n = 296).

Response of lactating dairy cows to high protein distillers grains or 3 other protein supplements.

This study compared high protein dried distillers grains (HPDDG) with soybean meal (SBM), canola meal (CM), and dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) as protein supplements in dairy diets. A lactation trial used 12 multiparous cows averaging 78 d in milk at the start of the experiment in a 4 x 4 Latin square design with 28-d periods. Weeks 1 and 2 of each period were used for adjustment and wk 3 and 4 for data collection.
