Background: Encephalitis of Rasmussen is an inflammatory hemiencephalopathy of unknown etiology. It is a cause of drug-resistant epilepsy.

Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) appears to affect blacks disproportionately in mixed populations. We report the first case of documented NMO in Togo (West Africa). A 26-year-old Togolese woman was admitted for progressive tetraplegia, acute urine retention, and dyspnea.

Myasthenia gravis is a rare acquired autoimmune pathology causing neuromuscular transmission impairment. Juvenile onset of myasthenia gravis is often characterized by ocular involvement. We report two cases of ocular juvenile myasthenia gravis (JMG) in two siblings.

Human meningitis due to Streptococcus suis in Lomé, Togo: a case report.

Background: Streptococcus suis is a zoonotic pathogen which represents the leading cause of meningitis in Southeast Asia and an emerging pathogen in the Western world, the main risk factor for infection being contact with pigs. In Africa, the prevalence of S. suis infections in swine and humans is largely unrecognized, with only one recent report of a limited case series.

[Management of spinal cord compression in Togo].

Purpose: The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiologic, clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of spinal cord compression at the Lomé-Campus teaching hospital.

Material And Method: We retrospectively analyzed the files of all patients hospitalized for spinal cord compression at Lome-Campus teaching hospital from January 1, 1998, through December 31, 2007.

Results: 39 files were selected, mostly of men (77%).
