Background: Management of H1N1 viral infection-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has primarily been focused on lung protective ventilation strategies, despite that mortality remains high (up to 45%). Other measures to improve survival are prone position ventilation (PPV) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) in children is most often secondary to a predisposing cause. DVT and septic pulmonary emboli in staphylococcal sepsis has been described most often with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The clinical features of four previously healthy children with community-acquired, methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus sepsis associated with DVT are described.
