Article Synopsis
  • The treatment of cancer has become more complex, utilizing traditional methods like chemotherapy and surgery, but innovative approaches are emerging, particularly involving folic acid-conjugated metal-based nanoparticles (NP) for targeted therapies, specifically photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT).
  • These nanoparticles leverage the affinity of folic acid for folate receptors, which many cancer cells produce in excess, allowing for more precise and effective treatment delivery.
  • The review highlights how these FA-functionalized metal nanoparticles enhance the effectiveness of PDT and PTT in lab and animal models, while also addressing challenges and future directions for their clinical application.

Cellular death evasion is a defining characteristic of human malignancies and a significant contributor to therapeutic inefficacy. As a result of oncogenic inhibition of cell death mechanisms, established therapeutic regimens seems to be ineffective. Mitochondria serve as the cellular powerhouses, but they also function as repositories of self-destructive weaponry.

Cancer is an intricate disease that develops as a response to a combination of hereditary and environmental risk factors, which then result in a variety of changes to the genome. The cluster of differentiation (CD44) is a type of transmembrane glycoprotein that serves as a potential biomarker for cancer stem cells (CSC) and viable targets for therapeutic intervention in the context of cancer therapy. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a linear polysaccharide that exhibits a notable affinity for the CD44 receptor.

A mild, efficient, and eco-friendly method for the synthesis of o-nitroarylamine from o-nitroaryl sulfonic acid via ipso nucleophilic aryl substitution by amine is described. The products have been obtained with good yields at room temperature without the assistance of any metal, activating agent, or toxic oxidant. This method is useful for racemization-free synthesis of N-aryl amino acid esters.

Here, the synthesis and applications of ()-ethyl-2-cyano-2-(((2,4,6-trichlorobenzoyl)oxy)imino)acetate as a racemization suppressing and easily recyclable version of the Yamaguchi reagent that can be used for amide and peptide synthesis are reported. We demonstrated its application in racemization-free esterification, thioesterification, amidation, and peptide bond formation. We successfully synthesized oligopeptides on the solid support in dimethylformamide as well as in solution (dichloromethane) by applying this coupling reagent.

Ubiquitousness of amide and ester functionality makes coupling reactions extremely important. Although numerous coupling reagents are available, methods of preparation of the common and efficient reagents are cumbersome. Those reagents generate a substantial amount of chemical waste and lack recyclability.
