A Biosensor for detection of DNA sequence in bacterium Bacillus anthracis has been developed using Raman spectrum of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). We have utilized the fact that being hydrophobic in nature single strand of target DNA (diseased DNA) gets wrapped over SWNT surface forming single stranded DNA-SWNT complex. The sensing ability of this sensor has been studied using the dependency of G peak intensity (in the Raman spectrum of SWNTs) on the covered surface of SWNTs.

Preterm birth is the leading perinatal problem with subsequent morbidity and mortality in developed as well as developing nations. Among the various possible environmental, genetic, demographic, psychosocial and obstetric risk factors responsible for premature labor, poor oral health with periodontal infection has also emerged as a potential and modifiable risk factor for preterm low birth weight babies. The infected periodontium is regarded as a reservoir for periodontopathic bacteria, mainly gram negative anaerobes that serve as a source of endotoxins and lipopolysaccharides, proinflammatory cytokines and prostaglandins that enhance uterine muscle contraction leading to preterm low birth weight.

A waiting period of 2 weeks after osteotomy increases the surrounding tissue activity to its maximum level as collagen formation and neoangiogenesis represent a relaxed and acceptable implant bed configuration. The aim of the present study was a clinical and radiologic evaluation of early osteotomy with implant placement delayed for 2 weeks with immediate loading in the anterior and premolar region with minimally invasive approach. This study describes the clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic features, and discusses the management options of 11 cases of benign giant-cell tumors of the patella seen over 20 years. Fine needle aspiration cytology was a useful preoperative diagnostic tool. Ptellectomy and reconstruction of the extensor apparatus is the favored treatment option with curettage and bone grafting restricted to selected localized lesions.
