High-performance boiling surfaces are in great demand for efficient cooling of high-heat-flux devices. Although various micro-/nano-structured surfaces have been engineered toward higher surface wettability and wickability for enhanced boiling, the design and fabrication of surface structures for realizing both high critical heat flux (CHF) and high heat transfer coefficient (HTC) remain a key challenge. Here, a novel "electrode-transpose" all-electrochemical strategy is proposed to create superhydrophilic microporous surfaces with higher dendrites and larger pores by simply adding an electrochemical etching step prior to the multiple electrochemical deposition steps.

Purpose: To investigate the application value of periodontal microsurgery in accelerated osteogenic orthodontics (PAOO).

Methods: A total of 100 patients with the need of PAOO surgery before orthodontic treatment due to the lack of alveolar bone in the mandibular anterior area were selected and randomly divided into microsurgery group and control group with 50 cases in each group. Preoperative CBCT was used to measure the thickness and height of the alveolar bone as well as the gingival thickness.

The nonintegrable higher spin Kitaev honeycomb model has an exact Z_{2} gauge structure, which exclusively identifies quantum spin liquid in the half-integer spin Kitaev model. But its constraints for the integer-spin Kitaev model are much limited, and even trivially gapped insulators cannot be excluded. The physical implications of exact Z_{2} gauge structure, especially Z_{2} fluxes, in integer-spin models remain largely unexplored.

Objective: As a reversible condition at its early stages, liver fibrosis can progress to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, underscoring the importance of early detection for preventing severe outcomes and improving prognosis. To address this issue, we developed a platelet-derived growth factor receptor β (PDGFRβ)-targeted nanoscale phase-change contrast agent to target activated hepatic stellate cells (aHSC) and enable ultrasound imaging as a foundation for the early evaluation of liver fibrosis.

Methods: PDGFR-β antibody-modified phase-change contrast agents (PPCAs) were synthesized utilizing film hydration and ultrasonic emulsification with perfluoropentane (PFP) encapsulated.

Article Synopsis
  • Alzheimer's disease (AD) is linked to secretases, which are enzymes that cleave proteins, playing a vital role in regulating key factors like amyloid precursor protein (APP) and Notch that influence both AD and cancer.
  • The article details the functions, cleavage sites, and biological roles of six secretase types (α, β, γ, δ, ε, η) and highlights their similarities and differences in how they interact with APP and Notch to affect disease progression.
  • It also discusses the potential of secretase inhibitors as a treatment strategy in AD and cancer, reviewing their chemical structures, current research stages, and future development prospects.

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is extensively studied as a pivotal role in the pathological processes associated with intestinal microecology. In antineoplastic drug treatments, ER stress is implicated in altering the permeability of the mechanical barrier, depleting the chemical barrier, causing dysbiosis, exacerbating immune responses and inflammation in the immune barrier. Enteric dysbiosis and intestinal dysfunction significantly affect the circulatory system in various heart disorders.

Half-metallic materials are widely used as spintronic devices such as electrodes, magnetic tunneling junction, and giant magnetoresistance. In this work, we have systematically investigated the structural stability, Gilbert damping, electronic structure, and magnetism together with exchange interactions and Curie temperatures for MnTaAl and MnWAl alloys. Initially, we estimate their structural stability and offer possible phase synthesis.

Excessive nitrogen fertilizer application is the main driving force threatening soil health and reducing multiple soil functions. The enhanced-efficiency nitrogen fertilizers (EENFs), such as urease inhibitors (NBPT), nitrification inhibitors (DCD), and coated controlled-release urea (RCN), have been proven to be effective measures for reducing nitrogen fertilizer application. However, the effects of EENFs on soil quality (SQI), microbial metabolic characteristics, and soil ecosystem multifunctionality (EMF) and their internal relationships are still unclear.

Quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs) have been used to predict mixture toxicity. However, current research faces gaps in achieving accurate predictions of the mixture toxicity of azole fungicides. To address this gap, the application of machine learning (ML) algorithms has emerged as an effective strategy.

  • The study aimed to evaluate how effective manipulation treatment is for lumbar disc herniation (LDH) using a model that focuses on muscle and bone assessment.
  • Conducted at a Shanghai hospital from May 2022 to August 2023, 72 LDH patients were divided into two groups: one receiving treatment based on the muscle and bone assessment model and the other using a different method called the two step seven gimmick.
  • After four weeks of treatment, pain levels (measured by the visual analogue scale) improved more significantly in the muscle and bone assessment model group compared to the other group, indicating that this treatment model may be more effective.

Purpose: Meningiomas are central nervous system tumors whose incidence increases with age. Benign meningioma pathogenesis involves germline or somatic mutation of target genes, such as NF2, leading to clonal expansion. We used an established cancer epidemiology model to investigate the number of rate-limiting steps sufficient for benign meningioma development.

Laser link acquisition and pointing technique is one of the essential techniques for the inter-satellite laser interferometry for space-based gravitational waves detection and next-generation Earth gravity measurement missions. The first step of building up inter-satellite laser link is using an acquisition camera to capture the inter-satellite laser beam signals within a pre-scanning uncertain cone. Subsequently, high-precision angle measurement technology, namely differential wavefront sensing, is used to achieve a high pointing precision required.
