A Fragile Balance: Managing Femoral Neck Fracture, Transient Osteoporosis, and COVID-19 in Late Pregnancy.

Transient osteoporosis of the hip (TOH) during pregnancy is a rare, self-limiting condition that frequently goes undiagnosed. However, if not managed properly, TOH can lead to significant complications, such as pathological fractures. We report a case of a 29-year-old primigravida at 33 weeks and four days of gestation who presented with a right femoral neck fracture following a fall.

Debridement, Antibiotics, and Implant Retention (DAIR) in Acute Hematogenous Total Knee Arthroplasty Infections: A Case Series.

Prosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a catastrophic complication in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Implant retention with eradication of infection to maintain limb function is ideal and debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (DAIR) have been reported to have variable success rates depending on several factors, including the duration of infection, the host immunity, the virulence of the causative microorganism, and the technique employed. In this case series, we present a series of successful cases presented with PJI after TKA and were treated using DAIR either via impregnation of vancomycin beads or calcium sulfate beads (antibiotic stimulan).

Saddle Pulmonary Embolism Following Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Rare Incidence.

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a life-threatening condition that occurs due to the blockage of the pulmonary artery by blood clots. The occurrence of PE after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is quite rare. Individuals with a history of PE have a high risk of recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE).

Development of self-administered questionnaire on barriers, prescription practices, and guideline adherence of osteoporosis management among tertiary care clinicians: content validity and reliability analysis.

Objective: This study outlined the development of the barriers, prescribing practices, and guideline adherence for osteoporosis management according to the Clinicians' Osteoporosis Questionnaire (COQ) followed by an assessment of the content validity index and reliability test.

Methods: The development of the COQ was performed in two stages. Stage I involved the development of the COQ, and stage II involved judgmental evidence and quantification of the questionnaire.

A Bone Health Optimization Framework for Malaysia: a position paper by the Malaysian Bone Health Optimization Network (MyBONe).

Robotic-assisted hip and knee arthroplasty represents cutting-edge advancements in orthopedic surgery, harnessing robotic technology to enhance precision, improve clinical outcomes, and facilitate intra-operative procedures. In these robotic-assisted surgeries, the robotic systems assist surgeons in planning and executing joint replacement surgeries, thereby facilitating personalized implant positioning and optimizing the fit and alignment of hip and knee implants. Despite the increasing attention garnered by robotic-assisted hip and knee arthroplasty in recent years, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis using the Scopus database has yet to be conducted.

Tiptoe Walking in the Presence of Superimposed Aeromonas With Dengue Infection.

The rise in limb salvage surgeries has led to an increase in post-traumatic equinus contractures, resulting in secondary causes of tiptoe walking. There is notable evidence linking superimposed bacteremia to heightened risks of morbidity and mortality in dengue patients, particularly when the immune system is compromised, leading to documented cases of -induced necrotizing fasciitis with myonecrosis. A case report from August 2019 involves a five-year-old boy admitted for dengue fever, which progressed to severe bilateral leg necrotizing fasciitis caused by concurrent infection.

A Rare Case of Obliterated Femoral Canal in Atypical Femoral Shaft Fracture Related to Bisphosphonate Therapy.

Bisphosphonates have been accepted as the first-line treatment for postmenopausal osteoporosis. Atypical femoral shaft fracture is one of the side effects of long-term bisphosphonate therapy. The mainstay treatment of this atypical fracture is bisphosphonates cessation and stabilization with internal fixation.

Rare Case of Focal Gigantism of the Foot.

Macrodystrophia lipomatosa (MDL) is a rare congenital variant of focused gigantism that is non-hereditary. Typically, MDL presents with localized gigantism in either the hand or foot. In this case report, we present the unique instance of a 12-year-old girl who has experienced enlargement of the first and second toes on her right foot since birth.

The Incidence of Gastrocnemius Tightness Among Clinic Staff in a District Hospital's Clinic in the State of Kedah, Malaysia.

Aim Musculus Gastrocnemius Tightness (MGT) has been linked with common foot and ankle pathologies. These symptoms sometimes are not severe enough for the patient to seek treatment. This study aims to determine the incidence rate of MGT among our clinical personnel and if there is any association between foot and ankle symptoms with MGT.

Unusual Presentation of Giant Upper Limb Malignant Melanoma.

Melanoma is rare among the Asian population. In Malaysia, there is little public awareness of melanoma compared to other types of cancer. Giant melanomas measuring more than 10 cm are rarely encountered and there are limited data available regarding this disease.

Metastatic Vascular Pleomorphic Leiomyosarcoma in a Previously Treated Cervical Carcinoma Patient: A Diagnostic Dilemma.

Vascular leiomyosarcoma is a rare malignant tumour of the smooth muscle connective tissue. Patients are usually asymptomatic in the early stages and only present when the lesion causes compressive or obstructive effects or has metastasized. We report a case of vascular pleomorphic leiomyosarcoma in a 70-year-old lady with a background history of squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix.

Hair Thread Tourniquet Syndrome in an Infant: Emergency Exploration Saves Limbs.

Hair thread tourniquet syndrome (HTTS) is a rare condition where fibres constrict around appendages causing ischaemia and necrosis. It is a sporadically reported condition, where almost all reported cases showed involvement of fingers, toes or genitalia. A significant number of the cases are infants aged two weeks to six months where it is attributed to the mother's excessive hair fall due to hormonal changes after delivery.
