The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between economic activity and the incidence of high-energy orthopedic trauma. California's Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development patient discharge database was queried to identify monthly orthopedic trauma incidence from 1995 to 2010. Patient inclusion required 1 diagnosis code and 1 associated procedural code for fractures of the femur, tibia, ankle, pelvis, or acetabulum.

We present the results of cast wedging for correction of alignment during the closed treatment of tibial and radial shaft fractures in children. We retrospectively reviewed the radiographic and clinical outcome of 249 cast wedges performed after reangulation of a previously manipulated tibial or radial shaft fracture. A mean improvement of close to 5 in coronal alignment was observed.

To evaluate normative data on elbow range of motion (ROM) in the pediatric population. The passive ROM of 1361 healthy pediatric elbows was measured using a small goniometer calibrated in 1° increments, and recorded. The mean amount of flexion, extension, and arc of motion was 142°, -11°, and 153°, respectively.
