Alcohol abuse and/or dependence, leading to alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS), is as high as 10% or more. There seem to be wide variations in management strategies used to manage these patients, prompting an evaluation of the knowledge gap as well as finding the barriers.

Unlabelled: Medical training programs outline the necessity of communication skills but there is likely a dearth of teaching at the bedside in part due to prioritization of other skills over communication or due to lack of opportunity. In India, the majority of critical care units are open in nature, and communication lead is likely to be taken by the primary specialty rather than the critical care doctors themselves. In the majority of the cases, the root cause analysis shows a lack of clear communication as a barrier.

Unlabelled: We report a case of fulminant hepatic failure due to the Budd-Chiari syndrome following preservation with a tropical fever. A young lady came with fever, altered mental status, jaundice, and renal failure. Following tropical workup, it was diagnosed as a case of leptospirosis (WHO Faine's criteria) with multi-organ dysfunction.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: India is one of the seven identified countries in South-East Asia region regularly reporting dengue fever (DF)/dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) outbreaks. Even though the dengue prodrome and evolution of illness are most often similar in many patients, progress and outcome may differ significantly depending on the severity of illness as well as treatment instituted. We studied the clinical manifestations, outcome and factors predicting mortality of serology confirmed dengue fever cases admitted in Multidisciplinary Intensive Care Unit (MICU) of a high acuity healthcare facility in India.
