Recent advancements in wearable biosensors and bioelectronics have led to innovative designs for personalized health management devices, with biocompatible conducting nanocomposite hydrogels emerging as a promising building block for soft electronics engineering. In this review, we provide a comprehensive framework for advancing biosensors using these engineered nanocomposite hydrogels, highlighting their unique properties such as high electrical conductivity, flexibility, self-healing, biocompatibility, biodegradability, and tunable architecture, broadening their biomedical applications. We summarize key properties of nanocomposite hydrogels for thermal, biomechanical, electrophysiological, and biochemical sensing applications on the human body, recent progress in nanocomposite hydrogel design and synthesis, and the latest technologies in developing flexible and wearable devices.

Environmentally induced sensor temperature fluctuations can distort the outputs of a sensor, reducing their stability during long-term health monitoring. Here, a passive isothermal flexible sensor is proposed by using hierarchical cellulose aerogel (HCA) as the top tribonegative layer, which allows the sensor to adapt dynamic thermal environments through both radiative cooling and heat insulation. The radiative cooling effect can cool down the temperatures of a sensor in summer, while the hollow microfibers in HCA provide ultralow thermal conductivity to reduce internal heat loss in winter.

The recent SARS-CoV-2 pandemic underscores the need for rapid and accurate prediction of clinical thrombotic events. Here, we developed nanoengineered multichannel immunosensors for rapid detection of circulating biomarkers associated with thrombosis, including C-reactive protein (CRP), calprotectin, soluble platelet selectin (sP-selectin), and D-dimer. Emerging evidence suggests that gut bacteria-derived trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) elevates the risk of cardiovascular disease, and dietary fiber holds the potential to attenuate TMAO formation. The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of the mixture of tremella polysaccharide (TP) and citrus pectin (CP) as an emulsifier by evaluating its emulsifying ability/stability. This study investigated the transformation of polyphenols, including free and bound polyphenols during the fermentation of wolfberry juice by NCU137. Results indicated that fermentation significantly increased the free polyphenols content and released bound polyphenols, enhancing the antioxidant activity. Analysis showed that there were 19 free polyphenols, mainly scopoletin, pyrogallol, and dihydroferulic acid, and 16 bound polyphenols, especially p-coumaric acid, feruloyl hexoside, and caffeic acid.
