Soil salinization has become one of the major problems that threaten the ecological environment. The aim of this study is to explore the mechanism of salt tolerance of hybrid walnuts ( × ) under long-term salt stress through the dynamic changes of growth, physiological and biochemical characteristics, and anatomical structure. Our findings indicate that (1) salt stress inhibited seedling height and ground diameter increase, and (2) with increasing salt concentration, relative water content (RWC) decreased, and proline (Pro) and soluble sugar (SS) content increased.

Although the effects of fertilization and microbiota on plant growth have been widely studied, our understanding of the chemical fertilizers to alter soil chemical and microbiological properties in woody plants is still limited. The aim of the present study is to investigate the impact of long-term application of chemical fertilizers on chemical and microbiological properties of root-associated soils of walnut trees. The results show that soil organic matter (OM), pH, total nitrogen (TN), nitrate-nitrogen (NO), and total phosphorus (TP) contents were significantly higher in non-fertilized soil than after chemical fertilization.

The magneto-optical spectrum, with magnetic fields up to 42 T, of double layered ruthenates Ca(RuMn)O (CRMO) single crystal is studied. Both the temperature and magnetic field induced insulator-to-metal transitions (IMTs) are observed via magneto-optical properties of the crystal. The critical magnetic field (H // c) of IMT for CRMO is found to be as large as 35 T at 5 K.

We report the effect of magnetic fields (MFs) on emission Eu-doped NaYF4 nanoparticles. A notable shift in the position of emission bands and the suppressed emission intensity are observed with the MF. These magnetic-optical interactions are explained in terms of the Zeeman effect, enhanced cross-relaxation rate and change of site symmetry.
