Fly ash and granulated blast furnace slag are both bulk industrial solid wastes. Using these two raw materials to completely replace cement and prepare alkali-activated fly ash slag concrete (AAFSC) at room temperature can not only efficiently utilize industrial solid waste and reduce the carbon footprint, but also reduce the economic cost and technical difficulty of construction, which is of great significance for promoting the sustainable development of the concrete industry. In this article, the content of fly ash accounted for 80% of the total precursor (fly ash + slag), and a mixed solution of sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide was used as alkali activator to prepare AAFSC by curing at room temperature.

This article systematically investigated the improvement effect of polypropylene fiber (PPF) on the mechanical and freeze-thaw properties of alkali-activated fly ash slag concrete (AAFSC) with high fly ash content and cured at room temperature. Fly ash and slag were used as precursors, with fly ash accounting for 80% of the total mass. A mixed solution of sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate was used as alkali activator, and short-cut PPF was added to improve the performance of AAFSC.

Lignin-based dye dispersants (LDD), as one of the most common lignin resource end-application product, is difficult to meet the rapidly developing needs of modern fiber dyeing due to their inherent structural defects. The efficient upgrading and modification of LDD is of great significance to the value-added application of lignin resources and the expansion of LDD sinking market. In this study, using industrial kraft lignin as raw material, cashew phenol was introduced into lignosulfonate in the form of CC bonds by ingenious utilizing the structural characteristics of lignin disordered condensation.

  • β-Arbutin is a natural compound with skin-whitening effects but can cause allergic reactions and cancer risks due to hydroquinone release during use.
  • The study assessed four compounds for their ability to inhibit tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in melanin synthesis, using enzyme kinetics and molecular simulations.
  • Results indicated that compounds 1, 3, and 4 had competitive inhibition, with compound 3 showing the strongest binding and stability, making it a promising candidate for developing safer skin-whitening agents.

Metagenomic shotgun sequencing data can identify microbes and their proportions. But metagenomic shotgun data profiling results obtained from multiple projects using different reference databases are difficult to compare and apply meta-analysis. Our work aims to create a novel collection of human gut prokaryotic genomes, named Microbiome Collection Navigator (MBCN).

To optimize the ultrasonic-assisted biphasic aqueous extraction conditions for polyphenolic compounds from Vaccinium dunalianum Wight leaves and investigate their antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibition activities, single-factor experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of ethanol volume fraction (%), ammonium sulfate mass fraction (%), solid-liquid ratio (g/mL), ultrasonic temperature (°C), and ultrasonic time (min) on polyphenolic content during extraction. Based on these experiments, three key factors influencing extraction were selected for response surface methodology (RSM) optimization. The results indicated that under conditions of 26 % ethanol, 20 % ammonium sulfate, a solid-liquid ratio of 1 : 30, and extraction for 35 minutes at 50 °C, the polyphenol content reached 61.

Background: Microbiota may be associated with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) development. However, it is not known the predictive value of microbial biomarkers combining epidemiological factors for the early detection of ESCC and precancerous lesions.

Methods: A total of 449 specimens (esophageal swabs and saliva) were collected from 349 participants with different esophageal statuses in China to explore and validate ESCC-associated microbial biomarkers from genes level to species level by 16S rRNA sequencing, metagenomic sequencing and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction.

Because of its uneven and large slope, unstructured pavement presents a great challenge to obtaining the adhesion coefficient of pavement. An estimation method of the peak adhesion coefficient of unstructured pavement on the basis of the extended Kalman filter is proposed in this paper. The identification accuracy of road adhesion coefficients under unstructured pavement is improved by introducing the equivalent suspension model to optimize the calculation of vertical wheel load and modifying vehicle acceleration combined with vehicle posture data.

Tyrosinase is a widely distributed copper-containing enzyme found in various organisms, playing a crucial role in the process of melanin production. Inhibiting its activity can reduce skin pigmentation. Hydroquinone is an efficient inhibitor of tyrosinase, but its safety has been a subject of debate.

Flap endonuclease 1 (FEN1) is a structure-specific nuclease that is involved in the occurrence and development of various types of tumors. Previous studies have shown that FEN1 plays an important role in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma, however, the molecular mechanisms remain fully elucidated, especially its effect on the cell cycle of hepatocellular carcinoma has not been investigated. In this study, via bioinformatics prediction and clinical specimen verification, we confirmed that FEN1 was highly expressed in HCC and correlated with poor prognosis.

Background: Liver cancer, especially hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), remains a significant global health challenge. Traditional prognostic indicators for HCC often fall short in providing comprehensive insights for individualized treatment. The integration of genomics and radiomics offers a promising avenue for enhancing the precision of HCC diagnosis and prognosis.

Background: The correlations between cuproptosis and long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) with the tumor microenvironment (TME), immunotherapy, and some other characteristics of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain unclear.

Methods: Sixteen cuproptosis regulators and 356 cuproptosis-related lncRNAs (CRLnc) were identified from 374 HCC profiles in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Six differentially expressed CRLnc were selected, and a prognostic risk model based on the CRLnc signature (CRLncSig) was constructed.

  • LOX-1 is linked to the development of atherosclerosis and emerging research suggests it may also play a role in cancer development, though more investigation is needed on its expression and prognostic relevance across various cancers.
  • A thorough literature review analyzed data from ten studies with 1982 patients, employing tools like Oncomine and GEPIA to assess LOX-1 expression and its potential as a prognostic marker.
  • Findings indicated that higher levels of LOX-1 are associated with poorer survival rates in certain cancers, particularly breast, colorectal, gastric, and pancreatic cancers, while its expression is lower in lung squamous cell carcinoma.

Immune-mediated hepatitis is marked by liver inflammation characterized by immune cell infiltration, chemokine/cytokine production, and hepatocyte injury. C-X3C motif receptor 1 (CX3CR1), as the receptor of chemokine C-X3C motif ligand 1 (CX3CL1)/fractalkine, is mainly expressed on immune cells including monocytes and T cells. Previous studies have shown that CX3CR1 protects against liver fibrosis, but the exact role of CX3CL1/CX3CR1 in acute immune-mediated hepatitis remains unknown.

Background: As an "immune-privileged organ", the liver has higher rates of both spontaneous tolerance and operational tolerance after being transplanted compared with other solid organs. Also, a large number of patients still need to take long-term immunosuppression regimens. Liver transplantation (LT) rejection involves varieties of pathophysiological processes and cell types, and a deeper understanding of LT immune response is urgently needed.
