Background And Aim: The use of a hood at the tip of a colonoscope enables aspiration, inversion of the diverticulum, and observation of the inside of the diverticulum. In most previous studies, a short hood was used; however, observation of the diverticulum is often inadequate. Long food is promising by previous research, but it was a retrospective study using propensity matching and has some limitations.

Introduction: The extent of surgical resection for tongue tumors is determined by tumor size, potentially affecting oral function and quality of life (QoL). However, the relationship between oral dysfunction and QoL decline due to glossectomy extent remains unexplored. Therefore, these correlations and their predictive value for postoperative QoL decline were elucidated.

Dietary factors such as food texture affect feeding behavior and energy metabolism, potentially causing obesity and type 2 diabetes. We previously found that rats fed soft pellets (SPs) were neither hyperphagic nor overweight but demonstrated glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, and hyperplasia of pancreatic β-cells. In the present study, we investigated the mechanism of muscle atrophy in rats that had been fed SPs on a 3-h time-restricted feeding schedule for 24 weeks.

Article Synopsis
  • * A 76-year-old man with a pancreatic head tumor, diagnosed as a metastasis of renal cell carcinoma, experienced worsening symptoms and was readmitted for treatment after initial discharge.
  • * The patient underwent ERCP, which revealed bleeding, and effective hemostasis was achieved using a fully covered metallic stent, demonstrating its usefulness in treating hemobilia linked to tumors.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore the relationship between pancreatic cysts and cystic diseases in other organs using abdominal ultrasonography among patients undergoing medical checkups.
  • Out of 4,496 patients examined, 172 had pancreatic cysts, while many others had liver and renal cysts, highlighting the prevalence of these conditions.
  • The findings indicated that pancreatic cysts were more common in females, and the presence of renal cysts may suggest a potential link, indicating the need to monitor for pancreatic cysts if renal cysts are found.

We report a case of successful treatment of stomal variceal bleeding with percutaneous transhepatic obliteration using a microballoon catheter concomitantly with drainage vein compression. A 72-year-old man with alcoholic cirrhosis was admitted to our hospital due to repeated hemorrhage of stomal varices. Percutaneous transhepatic obliteration was then selected for treatment because computed tomography revealed the stomal varices being fed by only two branches of the superior and inferior mesenteric veins.

  • * She developed symptoms including anal pain, diarrhea, and bloody stools, leading to a colonoscopy that revealed multiple ulcers in the colon.
  • * After a suspected diagnosis of lupus enteritis, the patient was treated with endoxan pulse therapy, resulting in rapid symptom improvement and the disappearance of ulcers confirmed by endoscopy.

Although Mohs paste can control bleeding, exudates, and odors from tumors, there have been no reports of the combination of Mohs paste with other treatments, such as chemotherapy, in oral cancer. Here, we report the combination of Mohs paste and chemotherapy for a case of metastatic oral cancer to the precordium skin and bilateral axillary lymph nodes. The tumors almost completely disappeared after the treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), specifically those with ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), frequently experience oral health issues like periodontitis, yet its impact on gut inflammation is poorly understood.
  • A study involving 60 IBD patients and 45 healthy controls revealed that the gut microbiome of IBD patients was more similar to their oral microbiome, indicating an increased colonization of gut bacteria by oral bacteria.
  • While early periodontitis didn't significantly alter clinical outcomes for most IBD patients, it was associated with a worsening activity index in some CD patients, suggesting it could exacerbate symptoms in certain cases.

Hierarchical structures which lie hidden between human complex conditions and reproductivity cannot be simple, and trends of each population component does not necessarily pertain to evolutionary theories. As an illustration, the fitness of individuals with heritable extreme conditions can be low across continuing generations in observational data. Autism and schizophrenia are characterized by such evolutionary paradox of survival and hypo-reproductivity in the complex human diversity.

Article Synopsis
  • A 60-year-old man with persistent fever and abdominal pain was diagnosed with acute cholecystitis and later transferred for further evaluation, revealing high eosinophil levels and inflammation of the gallbladder.
  • He was treated successfully with endoscopic gallbladder drainage and diagnosed with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), receiving corticosteroids and immunosuppressants, which helped reduce his eosinophil count and relieved symptoms.
  • However, 6 months post-discharge, he experienced a cerebral hemorrhage, demonstrating the complex nature of EGPA, which can present with various symptoms, including cholecystitis.

A 23-year-old woman who complained of abdominal distension and anorexia was referred to our hospital. Computed tomography showed ascites, a huge hepatic tumor and ovarian tumor. Gastroscopy revealed type 4 gastric cancer and biopsy examination showed poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma with signet ring cell carcinoma.

A 71-year-old woman presented to a nearby hospital with an occipital scalp ulcer with exudate. Thoracoabdominal enhanced computed tomography (CT) was performed due to suspected cancer. The imaging results showed tumors in the pancreatic tail and at multiple sites in the lung, whereupon she was referred to our hospital for further investigation.

Identification of social risk factors and the promotion of stress coping mechanisms and mental resilience are topics of interest in the field of mental health. The relationships between risk- or tolerability-associated factors and task-related hemodynamic responses in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) in adolescents may have important implications for mental health challenges. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between task-related PFC hemodynamic activities and subjective well-being or lifestyle habits using wearable near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS).

Article Synopsis
  • * EUS-FNA (Endoscopic Ultrasound Fine Needle Aspiration) was conducted on tumors in the pancreatic head and body, retrieving cells that indicated cancer.
  • * A total pancreatectomy was performed, revealing four lesions, with histological analysis confirming the same type of cancer in both the pancreatic cyst and the tumors.

Objective: To evaluate balloon-occluded arterial stump pressure (BOASP), which is responsible for effective balloon-occluded transarterial chemoembolization (B-TACE), at each hepatic arterial level before B-TACE using a 1.8-French tip microballoon catheter for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Material And Methods: The BOASP at various embolization portions was retrospectively investigated.

Pancreatic cancer patients with para-aortic lymph node metastasis have a poor prognosis and patients living longer than 3 years are rare. We had a patient with pancreatic cancer who survived for more than 10 years after removal of the para-aortic lymph node metastasis. A 57-year-old woman was diagnosed with pancreatic head cancer and underwent a pancreaticoduodenectomy with subtotal gastric resection following Whipple reconstruction in 2000.
