Objective: This study clarifies the involvement of gender and pre-existing diabetes mellitus (DM) in the clinical characteristics of polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR).
Methods: The clinical records of patients diagnosed with PMR in our department between January 2011 and June 2021, especially in terms of gender and DM were retrospectively analysed.
Results: We identified 89 patients with the median age of 75.
A 71-year-old Japanese female with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) was admitted for fever and neck pain. Her medication had been switched from secukinumab, an interleukin (IL)-17A inhibitor, to adalimumab, a tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α inhibitor, due to secondary failure for PsA. She was diagnosed with subacute thyroiditis (SAT) on the basis of thyroid hormone levels and thyroid ultrasound findings.

To characterize GADAb-positive patients with adult-onset diabetes who do not require insulin therapy for >5 years (NIR-SPIDDM), we conducted a nationwide cross-sectional survey in Japan.
Methods: We collected 82 GADAb-positive patients who did not require insulin therapy for >5 years (NIR-SPIDDM) and compared them with 63 patients with insulin-requiring SPIDDM (IR-SPIDDM).
We have previously reported the high levels of glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 autoantibodies (GAD65A) in patients with type 1 diabetes and autoimmune thyroid disease. Here we describe a 32-year-old Japanese female with a thirteen-year history of type 1 diabetes whose levels of GAD65A were elevated just after the emergence of anti-thyroid autoimmunity. At 19 years of age, she developed diabetic ketoacidosis and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

Affected organs may appear tumorous as a result of chronic inflammatory processes accompanied with progressive fibrosis. Recent cases of this disorder in which the pituitary gland was affected include cases of diffuse enlargement of the pituitary and/or its stalk associated with central diabetes insipidus and/or impaired anterior hormone production.

Two days after intravenous administration of a first course of bortezomib 1 mg/m(2), the patient developed rapidly-progressive numbness, pain and muscle weakness in the bilateral upper and lower limbs. Following gancyclovir treatment of subsequent cytomegalovirus viremia, the patient went on to receive a course of EPOCH (etoposide 50 mg/m(2)/day on days 1-4, vincristine 0.

Each assay system consists of a specific method to detect and/or quantify a substance of interest in the clinical specimen. However, clinical assays can be unfavorably influenced by non-specific activities concomitantly present in the specimen, which may mislead clinical decisions.
