TEPCO planned the release of Advanced Liquid Processing System (ALPS)-treated water, which is decontaminated stagnated water by ALPS, to the Pacific Ocean in 2023 after diluting it more than a hundred times in accordance with the policy of the Japan government. Since the low level of I-129 can remain in ALPS-treated water, the background I-129 concentration in seaweed samples around 1F NPS before the release of ALPS-treated water was recorded in this study. The iodine in seaweed samples was extracted via TMAH alkali-dissolution, and the I-129 concentration was measured by 8900 Triple Quadrupole ICP-MS.

This study aimed to examine the clinical characteristics of young children diagnosed with maturity-onset diabetes (MODY) using urine glucose screening at schools. The study participants were 70 non-obese children who were clinically diagnosed with type 2 diabetes through urine glucose screening at schools in Tokyo between 1974 and 2020. Of these children, 55 underwent genetic testing, and 21 were finally diagnosed with MODY: MODY2 in eight, MODY3 in eight, MODY1 in four and MODY5 in one.

This study aimed to investigate how intermittent hyperoxic exposure (three cycles of 21% O [10 min] and 30% O [15 min]) affects exercise performance in mice. Three hours after the acute exposure, there was an observed increase in mRNA levels of phosphofructokinase (Bayes factor [BF] ≥ 10), mitochondrial transcription factor-A (BF ≥10), PPAR-α (BF ≥3), and PPAR-γ (BF ≥3) in the red gastrocnemius muscle (Gr). Four weeks of exercise training under intermittent (INT), but not continuous (HYP), hyperoxia significantly (BF ≥30) increased maximal exercise capacity compared to normoxic exercise-trained (ET) group.

Aims/introduction: Insulin resistance syndrome and lipoatrophic diabetes are rare conditions characterized by the development of treatment-refractory diabetes with severe insulin resistance. We recently conducted a 24 week, multicenter, single-arm trial (EMPIRE-01) that demonstrated a certain level of effectiveness and safety of empagliflozin for these conditions. We observed a case of pancreatic metastasis of lung cancer being resected following chemoradiotherapy and reported with a review of the literature. The patient was a 60-year-old man and previously underwent an upper lobectomy of the right lung for the primary lesion and chemoradiotherapy for the metastatic lesion in the lower lobe of the right lung. During the follow-up period, positron emission tomography-computed tomography scan revealed a tumor in the pancreatic body, which was a hyperechoic mass on endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) and hypervascularity on Sonazoid angiography.

Prevention of hypoglycemia is an important strategy for glycemic management in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D). Islet-cell associated antibodies are predictive and diagnostic markers for type 1 diabetes. We studied the differences in the early clinical course of children with type 1 diabetes with a single antibody and those with multiple antibodies against pancreatic β-cells. Sixty-seven children with type 1 diabetes aged less than 15 years diagnosed between 2010 and 2021 were included in the study and subdivided into two subgroups: children who were single positive for either glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) antibodies (n = 16) or insulinoma-associated antigen-2 (IA-2) antibodies (n = 13) and those positive for both antibodies (n = 38) at diagnosis.
