Emergency responders face significant human factors and ergonomic (HF/E) challenges related to physical, cognitive, emotional, and training demands during high-stress situations. This study investigates these issues through a survey of 60 emergency responders, identifying key HF/E concerns such as fatigue, cognitive overload, and emotional stress. The research proposes innovative artificial intelligence and smart technology-driven solutions, including personalized protective equipment with exoskeleton, augmented reality tools for situational awareness, and virtual reality-based training simulations, to address these challenges.

There is increasing global concern about environmental pollutants, such as heavy metals, plastics, pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and pesticides, which have been detected in a variety of environments and are likely to be exposed to nontarget organisms, including humans. Various animal models have been utilized for toxicity assessment, and zebrafish are particularly valuable for studying the toxicity of various compounds owing to their similarity to other aquatic organisms and 70% genetic similarity to humans. Their development is easy to observe, and transgenic models for organs such as the heart, liver, blood vessels, and nervous system enable efficient studies of organ-specific toxicity.

Propanil, an anilide herbicide, has frequently been detected in surface waters in Europe and the United States, largely due to its use in paddy cultivation areas. Particularly in specific regions like Sri Lanka, propanil is considered a potential cause of certain diseases and toxicities due to its high environmental runoff; however, there has been little research on its developmental toxicity. We report a design for a synergistic lithium (Li) metal hosting layer for high-loading Li(Ni,Co,Al)O (NCA) (≥5 mA h cm)||Li-metal full cells in carbonate electrolytes. Based on density functional theory calculations, the hosting layer was designed as a three-dimensional silver/carbon composite nanofiber (Ag/CNF) network with high Li affinity and a platinum (Pt)-coated polypropylene separator with low Li affinity. This study experimentally investigated the effect of dogmatic and suggestive language in Christian-sourced excessive alcohol consumption messages among college-aged participants who identify as Christians or non-Christians, as well as the role of perceived similarity with the message source, on their self-reported freedom-threat, psychological reactance, and behavioral intentions to consume alcohol. The results from this study support psychological reactance theory and demonstrate the various message strategies to effectively communicate the negative health effects of excessive alcohol consumption to individuals who identify either as Christians or non-Christians.

Electrochemical CO reduction on Cu is a promising approach to produce value-added chemicals using renewable feedstocks, yet various Cu preparations have led to differences in activity and selectivity toward single and multicarbon products. Here, we find, surprisingly, that the effective catalytic activity toward ethylene improves when there is a larger fraction of less active sites acting as reservoirs of *CO on the surface of Cu nanoparticle electrocatalysts. In an adaptation of chemical transient kinetics to electrocatalysis, we measure the dynamic response of a gas diffusion electrode (GDE) cell when the feed gas is abruptly switched between Ar (inert) and CO.
