Is obstructive sleep apnea associated with erythrocytosis? A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to investigate the association between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and erythrocytosis.

Methods: The PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for articles examining hematocrit values in patients with OSA and control individuals published till September 1, 2021. The pooled standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated, and subgroup analyses were performed.

Saccular Pathology Is Most Commonly Found in Patients With General Vestibular Disorders.

Objectives: The first purpose of this study was to investigate the difference in the frequency of involvement of the superior vestibular nerve (SVN) and inferior vestibular nerve (IVN) territories in general vestibular disorders, and to identify which IVN territory was more commonly involved in patients with IVN lesions. The second purpose was to investigate the correlation of the degree of each saccular and posterior semicircular canal (PSCC) dysfunction, as represented by the parameters of cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP) and video head impulse test (vHIT), in patients with pathology of the IVN territory.

Methods: In total, 346 patients with dizziness who underwent the caloric test, cVEMP, and vHIT were enrolled.

Development of Central Sleep Apnea After Sleep Surgery.

Central sleep apnea (CSA) is defined as an absence of breathing without respiratory drive during sleep. It can occur after treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a phenomenon known as treatment-emergent central sleep apnea (TECSA). We present a case of a 23-year-old male who developed CSA after pharyngeal and nasal surgery for severe OSA.

Association between diabetes mellitus and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps: A population-based cross-sectional study.

Objective: To investigate the association between physician-diagnosed diabetes mellitus (DM) and chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) phenotypes in a national population-based study.

Study Design: Retrospective cross-sectional study.

Setting: Population-based survey data were collected by the Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey between January 2008 and December 2012.

To investigate the effect of choline alfoscerate (CA) on hearing amplification in patients with age related hearing loss, we performed a prospective case-control observational study from March 2016 to September 2020. We assessed patients with bilateral word recognition score (WRS) <50% using monosyllabic words. The patients were 65-85 years old, without any history of dementia, Alzheimer's disease, parkinsonism, or depression.

Feasibility of Asynchronous and Automated Telemedicine in Otolaryngology: Prospective Cross-Sectional Study.

Use of a Diabetes Self-Assessment Score to Predict Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) are strongly associated with obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. We recently developed and validated a self-assessment score in the Korean population to identify people at high risk for diabetes. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether the self-assessment risk score for diabetes can also be used to screen for the presence of NAFLD or NASH.
