Supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO) is a non-toxic and environmentally friendly fluid and has been used in polymerization reactions, processing, foaming, and plasticizing of polymers. Exploring the behavior and data of SCCO sorption and dissolution in polymers provides essential information for polymer applications. This study investigated the sorption and diffusion of SCCO into polyetherimide (PEI).

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the physical and mechanical properties of bio-based polymer blends made from PLA, PBS, and PBAT with varying amounts of nanohydroxyapatite (nHA), aimed at developing bone graft materials.
  • Two series of blends (A and B) were created with different PLA concentrations, and the samples were processed using a twin-screw extruder; various analyses (FTIR, XRD, DSC, SEM, TEM, TGA) were conducted to evaluate the blends.
  • Results indicate that the addition of nHA enhances the crystallinity, mechanical properties, and hydrophilicity of the blends, identifying promising formulations for bone graft applications.
