Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the connection between serum CART levels and internet gaming disorder (IGD), a condition that has become more common due to the growth of online gaming.
  • - Researchers found that individuals with IGD had lower serum CART levels compared to healthy controls, along with higher scores in depression and anxiety.
  • - The findings suggest that lower CART levels may indicate a higher risk for developing IGD, thereby positioning CART as a potential biomarker for the disorder.

  • - Researchers examined the effects of adding L. powder (C) to Tteokgalbi, a traditional Korean meat dish, comparing different concentrations (0%, 1%, 2%, 4%) and ascorbic acid as a control.
  • - Higher levels of C led to changes in the meat's moisture, protein, fat, and carbohydrate content, affecting its color, texture, and cooking properties; particularly, the water-holding capacity decreased, causing more cooking loss.
  • - The addition of C not only enhanced nutritional aspects like phenolic and flavonoid content but also resulted in lower microbial counts after storage, indicating its potential as a natural additive in meat products.

This study aimed to explore the predictors of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in women who have recently experienced sexual assault, by examining psychological and neurophysiological factors using a prospective design with resting-state electroencephalogram (EEG) functional connectivity. The study enrolled 33 women who had been recently traumatized by sexual assault and conducted assessments within a month of the trauma. These survivors were evaluated for PTSD three months later and were classified into two groups: PTSD positive (n = 12) and PTSD negative (n = 21).

Fetal bovine serum (FBS) is an extremely important culture growth supplement, accounting for approximately 60 % of cell-culture-media costs; therefore, lowering FBS-acquisition costs for the industrialization of cultured meat is imperative. This study attempted to produce an FBS substitute using discarded livestock by-products, with particular focus on formulating a product with a composition similar to that of FBS to improve effectiveness. However, to date, no study has precisely analyzed the commercial components of FBS, and this study is the first to compare the chemical composition of FBS and commercially available horse serum purchased from the United States or Europe with that of FBS substitutes developed by our team.

Stress and resilience are involved in the pathophysiology of addictive disorders, and heart rate variability (HRV) is an index of an individual's global capability to regulate psychological responses. In this study, we aimed to identify transdiagnostic and disorder-specific markers in people with addictive disorders by analyzing resting-state HRV and associations with the levels of stress and resilience. We compared relevant data between patients with internet gaming disorder (IGD) and/or alcohol use disorder (AUD) and healthy controls (HCs).

  • A scoping review was conducted to analyze the relationship between emerging digital gambling-like activities, such as loot boxes and esports betting, and traditional gambling and video gaming behaviors.
  • The review included 38 empirical studies, revealing that participation in gambling-like activities is linked to increased mental distress, impulsivity, and a positive association with both gambling and gaming behaviors.
  • Identified gaps in the research highlight the need for more diverse methodologies and participant demographics, particularly in understanding skin betting and token wagering.

  • ATF7 is a transcription factor that helps form heterochromatin in normal conditions, but its role during porcine embryonic development is not well understood.
  • * In this study, researchers observed that ATF7 accumulates in the nucleus and associates with heterochromatin after a certain developmental stage; its knockdown led to reduced embryo formation and cell numbers.
  • * The findings suggest that stress affects ATF7's function, highlighting its importance in regulating gene expression and embryo quality during early development.
