Background: Patient-centered care requires physicians to respond to patients' preferences, including their preferences regarding treatment decision-making. The authors surveyed patients to determine their preoperative preferences and their retrospectively perceived levels of involvement in decision-making for carpal tunnel release, and they attempted to identify factors that affect patient preferences and experiences.
Methods: Seventy-eight patients who underwent carpal tunnel release for carpal tunnel syndrome were requested to indicate their preferred level of involvement preoperatively and to assess their actual levels of involvement postoperatively, using a Control Preferences Scale containing five levels that range from fully active to fully passive.
Introduction: Pronator quadratus (PQ) is an important contributor to forearm pronation, and there is concern that volar plating of a distal radius fracture (DRF) may damage the PQ function. The purpose of this study was to determine whether isokinetic pronation strength would decrease considerably after volar locking plating of a DRF, and whether clinical outcomes would be affected by any pronation strength decrease.
Materials And Methods: Thirty-four patients of mean age of 55 years (range, 21-74 years) underwent bilateral isokinetic testing at 6 months and 1 year after open reduction and internal fixation using volar plating.
Kabuki make-up syndrome (KMS) is a multiple malformation/mental retardation syndrome that was first described in Japan but is now reported in many other ethnic groups. Kabuki make-up syndrome is characterized by multiple congenital abnormalities: craniofacial, skeletal, and dermatoglyphic abnormalities; mental retardation; and short stature. Common hand anomalies associated with KMS include persistent fingertip pad, brachydactyly, clinodactyly, and lax joints.

The purpose of this study was to assess depressive symptoms in patients with a distal radius fracture, and to determine whether early use of the wrist after volar plating reduces depressive symptoms as compared with cast immobilisation during the early recovery period.
Materials And Methods: Twenty-six patients with a distal radius fracture, who underwent volar plating and were allowed immediate use of the wrist, and 24 patients treated by cast immobilisation for 6 weeks were prospectively compared with respect to depressive symptoms at week 0, and at 2, 6, 12 and 24 weeks after injury, using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D).
We present a case of delayed recurrent hemarthrosis after posterolateral reconstruction of the knee with staple fixation of the tendon graft at the lateral femoral condyle. A 20-year-old man had undergone a reconstructive surgery of the knee with allogeneic Achilles tendon aimed to reinforce lateral collateral ligament and popliteofibular ligament. At 4 months after surgery, recurrent swelling of the operated knee after minor exertion developed.
