Purpose: This study evaluates the long-term efficacy of hippocampal deep brain stimulation (Hip-DBS) in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE), specifically focusing on bilateral temporal lobe epilepsy (BTLE) and posterior epilepsy (PE).
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 15 DRE patients (11 BTLE, 4 PE) who underwent bilateral Hip-DBS at Samsung Medical Center over an eight-year period. Medical records, seizure diaries, and neuropsychological assessments were reviewed.
This study investigated the sources and distribution characteristics of PM and its chemical components (ions, carbons, elements) at five locations within the Banwal and Sihwa National Industrial Complexes in Ansan and Siheung. These large-scale industrial clusters, comprising 7642 businesses across sectors such as petrochemicals, steel, machinery, and electronics, operate throughout the year. From 2020 to 2023, the average PM concentration in the study area was 28.

This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of ETOA using an OR-sparing surgical strategy for mediobasal temporal lesions.
Methods: A retrospective review was conducted of the medical records of 15 patients (7 females and 8 males) who underwent ETOA for lesions in the MTR between November 2017 and November 2022.
Background And Aims: Despite the development of transient elastography (TE)-based Agile scores for diagnosing fibrotic burden in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), their applicability in predicting kidney outcomes remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the association between liver fibrotic burden, as assessed by Agile scores, and the risk of incident chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients with MASLD.
Methods: A total of 3240 participants with MASLD but without pre-existing CKD who underwent TE between July 2006 and October 2018 were selected.
Introduction: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is known to be associated with metabolic syndrome of which diabetes is an important component. Although diabetes is a known risk factor for dementia, studies on the association between NAFLD and dementia still produce conflicting results. This study aimed to determine whether NAFLD would be a risk factor for the development of dementia in an elderly population.

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)-based radiation therapy (RT) is suggested to minimize the risk of SLP. This study aimed to evaluate SLP incidence based on multi-institutional database in patients with GBM treated with IMRT and develop a predictive nomogram.

Background: It is unclear whether direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) treatment improves the disease burden in hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. This study aimed to investigate the effect of DAA treatment on the reduction of disease burden in patients with HCV infection using individual participant data.
Methods: This nationwide multicentre retrospective cohort study recruited patients with HCV infection from 29 tertiary institutions in South Korea.

Introduction: Bone grafts for scaphoid nonunion with deformity include cortcicocancellous or pure cancellous bone grafts. This study compared the outcomes between two types of bone grafts when employing a volar locking-plate in patients with scaphoid nonunion with dorsal intercalated segmental instability (DISI).
Patients And Methods: This retrospective study included 34 patients with scaphoid nonunion and DISI due to humpback deformity treated between March 2017 and January 2022.
For high-grade glioma (HGG) patients with old age or poor performance status, hypofractionated radiotherapy (hypoRT) in 10-15 fractions is recommended. Also, limited data exist on the impact of salvage treatment after progression in frail patients. We retrospectively analyzed the outcomes of dose-escalated hypoRT in 40 frail HGG patients who were treated with hypoRT between 2013 and 2021.

Here, we investigated whether KLF10 deletion affects the development of liver fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Methods: We induced KLF10 deletion in C57BL/6 mice.
Background: The standard of care for glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is maximal surgical resection followed by conventional fractionated concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) with a total dose of 60 Gy. However, there is currently no consensus on the optimal boost technique for CCRT in GBM.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 398 patients treated with CCRT between 2016 and 2021, using data from two institutional databases.
Background: We investigated whether higher fibrotic burden was independently associated with poorer kidney outcomes in patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related cirrhosis.
Methods: A total of 1691 patients with radiologically diagnosed HBV-related cirrhosis but without baseline chronic kidney disease (CKD) who underwent transient elastography (TE) between March 2012 and August 2018 were selected. The study outcome was the composite of development of incident CKD, defined as the occurrence of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) <60 mL/minute/1.
Manganese (Mn) exposure is associated with increased risks of dementia and cerebrovascular disease. However, evidence regarding the impact of ambient Mn exposure on brain imaging markers is scarce. We aimed to investigate the association between ambient Mn exposure and brain imaging markers representing neurodegeneration and cerebrovascular lesions.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed data of 29 patients who received surgical treatment for closed, intra-articular fractures of the base of the fifth metacarpal and were followed up for at least 1 year after surgery. Sixteen of the 29 patients underwent CRKF, whereas 13 patients underwent ORPF.
Background: Some studies have analyzed the frequency of HCV RNA testing and actual treatment among anti-HCV positive patients in Korea, which has a low prevalence of HCV infection. This study aimed to analyze the diagnosis process, treatment results, and prognosis according to care cascade in patients who are anti-HCV positive.
Methods: Three thousand two hundred fifty-three anti-HCV positive patients presented to a tertiary hospital between January 2005 and December 2020.
Purpose: Hypofractionated radiotherapy (HypoRT) has recently been implemented in patients with glioblastoma (GBM) receiving concurrent temozolomide. Lymphopenia during treatment (LDT) is considered an important prognostic factor of clinical outcomes for GBM. We aimed to investigate the outcomes of HypoRT.
