There is increasing interest in utilizing senolytics to selectively remove senescent cells from intestinal tissues, with the aim of maintaining a healthy gut environment during aging. This strategy underscores the potential of senolytics to enhance gut health by delaying intestinal aging and positively modulating gut microbiota. Certain plant-based phytochemicals have demonstrated promising senolytic effects.

While diverse long COVID symptoms are established, there are gaps in understanding its long-term trends, intensity, and risk factors, requiring further investigation.
Aims: This study aimed to investigate the long COVID characteristics and associated factors by following COVID-19 survivors for one year post-infection and comparing them with healthy counterparts.

Breast density is an independent risk factor for breast cancer, although variability exists in measurements. This study sought to evaluate the agreement between radiologists and automated breast density assessment software and assess the impact of breast density measures on breast cancer risk estimates using the Breast Cancer Surveillance Consortium (BCSC) model (v.2).

However, the individual saponins responsible for these effects are yet to be isolated and characterized. This study aimed to identify the most effective sea cucumber body part for inhibiting lipid accumulation in adipocytes and to elucidate the compounds responsible for this effect using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques.

Background And Aims: The estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR) is an easily accessible clinical parameter for assessing insulin resistance in patients with diabetes mellitus. In this study, we aimed to investigate the link between eGDR and subclinical coronary atherosclerosis in an asymptomatic middle-aged Korean population.
Methods And Results: This study involved 4004 subjects who underwent routine health checkups with coronary multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) at Asan Medical Center from 2007 to 2011, among whom 913 had a follow-up analysis through 2014.

Background: Myosteatosis, ectopic fat accumulation in skeletal muscle, is a crucial component of sarcopenia, linked to various cardiometabolic diseases. This study aimed to analyze the association between dyslipidemia and myosteatosis using abdominal computed tomography (CT) in a large population.
Methods: This study included 11,823 patients not taking lipid-lowering medications with abdominal CT taken between 2012 and 2013.
Purpose: Dulaglutide is a long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist that is not cleared by the kidneys and has proven efficacy and safety in patients with diabetic kidney disease. We aimed to evaluate the 1-year efficacy of dulaglutide in patients with diabetic kidney disease who have used the drug for more than 1 year.
Methods: This retrospective, observational study comprised 131 patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of less than 60 mL/min/1.
(GC) is a red algal species that is primarily consumed in Asia. Here, we investigated the effect of GC on obesity-related skeletal muscle wasting. Furthermore, elucidating its impact on the activation of sirtuin 1 (SIRT1)/peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1α (PGC1α) constituted a critical aspect in understanding the underlying mechanism of action.

Purpose To compare the performance of mammography alone, mammography with AI, and mammography plus supplemental US for screening women with dense breasts, and to investigate the characteristics of the detected cancers. Materials and Methods A retrospective database search identified consecutive asymptomatic women (≥40 years of age) with dense breasts who underwent mammography plus supplemental whole-breast handheld US from January 2017 to December 2018 at a primary health care center.

We aimed to assess the quantity and quality of skeletal muscle using each of these diagnostic classifications.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included 18 154 participants (11 551 [63.
Background: Exercise is an effective strategy to prevent sarcopenia, but high physical inactivity in the elderly requires alternative therapeutic approaches. Exercise mimetics are therapeutic compounds that simulate the beneficial effects of exercise on skeletal muscles. However, the toxicity and adverse effects of exercise mimetics raise serious concerns.

Methods: This multicentre, parallel-group, RCT was conducted at 13 tertiary medical centres in South Korea. Adults aged 19-69 years with type 1 diabetes who had HbA levels of <85.
Ulaanbaatar (UB), the fast-growing capital of Mongolia, is known for its world's worst level of particulate matter (PM) concentrations in winter. However, current anthropogenic emission inventories over the UB are based on data from more than fifteen years ago, and satellite observations are scarce because UB is in high latitudes. During the winter of 2020-21, the first period of the Fine Particle Research Initiative in East Asia considering the National Differences (FRIEND), several times higher concentrations of PM in UB compared to other urban sites in East Asia were observed but not reproduced with a chemical transport model mainly due to the underestimated anthropogenic emissions.

Aims: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of overall cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk on the development of incident T2DM in patients with prediabetes.
Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 5,908 subjects with prediabetes who underwent health check-ups at the Asan Medical Center. CVD risk was estimated using the Framingham Risk Score (FRS).
Background: Viral infection is a risk factor for asthma exacerbation (AE). However, bacterial infections related to AE in adults are poorly known. On the other hand, obese patients with asthma have their own clinical and biological characteristics compared with non-obese patients.

Synthetic glucocorticoids, including dexamethasone (Dexa), are commonly used to treat autoimmune diseases. However, prolonged exposure of Dexa with high dose exerts severe side effects, including muscle atrophy.

We performed a retrospective, multicenter, observational study used data of patients with T2DM obtained from three tertiary hospitals' databases. Patients given metformin within run-in periods and with at least one additional prescription formed the metformin cohort.

In this study, we used surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-based screening of a natural product library to discover ligands for Pax7 and MyoD, key regulators of satellite cells (SCs), and performed cell-based assays on Hanwoo SCs (HWSCs) to identify substances that promote cell proliferation and/or differentiation. Through an SPR analysis, we found that six chemicals, including one Pax7+/MyoD- chemical, four Pax7+/MyoD+ chemicals, and one Pax7-/MyoD+ chemical, bound to Pax7 and/or MyoD proteins.
