: As one of the important interventions to alleviate anthracycline-related cardiotoxicity (ARC), the safety assessment of dexrazoxane in clinical practice is particularly important. This study aims to evaluate the actual efficacy and potential adverse effects of dexrazoxane in clinical practice by analyzing the reports of adverse events (AEs) related to the combination with dexrazoxane and anthracyclines. : We utilized four disproportionality analysis methods to analyze AE reports of the combination with dexrazoxane and anthracyclines in the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database from the third quarter of 2014 to the first quarter of 2024.

Background: Hip dislocation represents a significant complication encountered following hip arthroplasty procedures. In this investigation, we conducted a comparative analysis of the biomechanical characteristics exhibited by the piriformis and the conjoined tendon after total hip arthroplasty (THA) via the direct anterior approach (DAA), utilizing cadaveric specimens. The objective is to ascertain the relative significance of the piriformis muscle and the conjoined tendon in mitigating hip dislocation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how bone mass develops throughout life in the Chinese population and compares it with racial groups in the US, focusing on osteoporosis prevention strategies.
  • It utilized data from the China Body Composition Life-course Study and the US NHANES, measuring bone mineral content and density using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry at various body sites.
  • Findings show that peak bone mass occurs mainly between ages 21-30 in Chinese individuals, with later declines in bone health, and highlights that Chinese individuals generally have lower bone mass than their White, Mexican, and Black counterparts.

Empty follicle syndrome (EFS) is a disorder characterised by the unsuccessful retrieval of oocytes from matured follicles following ovarian stimulation for in vitro fertilisation (IVF). Genetic factors significantly contribute to this pathology. To date, an increasing number of genetic mutations associated with GEFS have been documented, however, some cases still remain unexplained by these previously reported mutations.

Background: There is limited research providing an overall understanding of bone mineral density (BMD) changes throughout different stages of life. This study aimed to investigate the pattern of BMD changes across childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and old age, as well as exploring the critical time of peak BMD (PBMD).

Methods: Participants of three major ethnicities from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999 to 2018 were involved: 46,381 and 20,944 participants aged 8-85 years old were included in the Lumbar spine BMD (LSBMD) and femoral neck BMD (FNBMD) studies, respectively.

The objective of this study is to explore the associations between obesity, body composition, and the self-reported risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and to examine whether the risk of OSA is related to metabolic abnormalities in children and adolescents aged 6-17 years. Utilizing data from the 2022 to 2023 Beijing Children and Adolescents Health Cohort baseline survey, 5000 school-aged participants were analyzed. OSA risk was assessed via the Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire, with anthropometric and body composition measurements taken.

Background: Sarcopenia is an important indicator of ill health and is linked to increased mortality and a reduced quality of life. Age-associated muscle mass indices provide a critical tool to help understand the development of sarcopenia. This study aimed to develop sex- and age-specific percentiles for muscle mass indices in a Chinese population and to compare those indices with those from other ethnicities using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data.

Asparagus is a nutritionally dense stem vegetable whose growth and development are correlated with its quality and yield. To investigate the dynamic changes and underlying mechanisms during the elongation and growth process of asparagus stems, we documented the growth pattern of asparagus and selected stem segments from four consecutive elongation stages using physiological and transcriptome analyses. Notably, the growth rate of asparagus accelerated at a length of 25 cm.

Introduction: Muscle mass is vital for physical activity and fundamental physiological processes supporting long-term health. While aging is inevitable, certain modifiable factors positively influence muscle preservation and overall well-being. However, the relationship between the consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF) and muscle mass is not yet clear.

Objectives: Direct factor Xa inhibitors rivaroxaban, apixaban, and edoxaban, commonly used direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC), are widely used to prevent and treat stroke and venous thromboembolic events in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). This study aimed to assess and compare reports of adverse events associated with rivaroxaban, apixaban, and edoxaban, including hemorrhagic and non-hemorrhagic events.

Methods: Reporting odds ratio (ROR), proportional reporting ratio (PRR), Medications and Health Care Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), and the information component (IC) were used to perform a risk assessment of adverse event reports in the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database for the years 2018-2022.

Hard limestone substrates, which are extensively distributed, are believed to exacerbate drought and increase the difficulty of restoration in vulnerable karst regions. Fissures in such substrates may alleviate the negative effect of drought on plants, but the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. In a two-way factorial block design, the growth and photosynthesis of 2-year-old Phoebe zhennan seedlings were investigated in two water availabilities (high versus low) and three stimulated fissure habitat groups (soil, soil-filled fissure and non-soil-filled fissure).

Tm,Ho:CaYLuAlO (Tm,Ho:CALYLO) crystal has wide emission spectra both for π-polarization and σ-polarization, showing significant potential for the generation of ultrashort pulses. Here, a widely tunable and passively mode-locked laser operation based on Tm,Ho:CALYLO crystal under two polarizations was demonstrated for what we believe to be the first time ever. For π-polarization, a maximum output power of 1.

Asparagus, characterized by its high metabolic rate, is susceptible to quality degradation. Proanthocyanidins have antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, and other biological functions and can inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species in plants. To enhance the shelf life of asparagus, we investigated the impact of various concentrations of proanthocyanidins on its cold storage and preservation.
