A total of 24 genes of vacuolar H-translocating pyrophosphatases H-PPases (VPP) genes were identified in Saccharum spontaneum AP85-441 and the ScVPP1-overexpressed Arabidopsis plants conferred salt tolerance. The vital role of vacuolar H-translocating pyrophosphatases H-PPases (VPP) genes involved in plants in response to abiotic stresses. However, the understanding of VPP functions in sugarcane remained unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates a gene mutation in sugarcane that leads to the creation of maternal haploids, which are plants with only one set of chromosomes from the mother.
  • This process occurs in vivo, meaning it happens within a living organism rather than in a lab setting.
  • The findings suggest potential improvements for sugarcane breeding, making it easier to develop new varieties with desirable traits.

Heat stress is an increasingly significant abiotic stress factor affecting crop yield and quality. This study aims to uncover the regulatory mechanism of sweet corn response to heat stress by integrating transcriptome and metabolome analyses of seedlings exposed to normal (25 °C) or high temperature (42 °C). The transcriptome results revealed numerous pathways affected by heat stress, especially those related to phenylpropanoid processes and photosynthesis, with 102 and 107 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) identified, respectively, and mostly down-regulated in expression.

We conducted this research in order to investigate the potential of a new material called glass pumice for use as a microorganism immobilization carrier to improve aquaculture pond water quality. The pH adjustment capacity and the Rhodopseudomonas palustris P1 cell adsorption capacity of glass pumice were measured. The immobilized Rps.
