At present, the relationship between the morphological characteristics of the sympheseal region and occlusion has not been well documented. The aim of the present study was to investigate the following, using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT): Interforaminal distance, the anterior loop, labial bone thickness at the tooth apex, cortical bone thickness, and the basal bone height from the apex of the tooth to the base of the mandible. Three-dimensional CBCT was performed on 20 normal occlusion subjects (9 males and 11 females; mean age=21.

Stiff left atrial (LA) syndrome was initially reported in post-cardiac surgery patients and known to be associated with low LA compliance. We investigated the physiological and clinical implications of LA compliance by estimating LA pulse pressure (LApp) among patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and structurally and functionally normal heart. Among 1038 consecutive patients with LA pressure measurements before AF ablation, we included 334 patients with structurally and functionally normal heart (81.

Risedronate has been used for the prevention and treatment of postmenopausal and corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis. The present study was performed to evaluate the effects of risedronate on the morphology and viability of human stem cells derived from the gingiva. Stem cells derived from the gingiva were grown in the presence of risedronate at concentrations that ranged from 1 to 10 µM.

Albuminuria and periodontitis are both commonly associated with systemic inflammation. However, the association between urinary albumin excretion (UAE) and periodontitis in patients with type 2 diabetes has not been fully investigated. This study aimed to investigate the association between UAE and periodontitis in Korean adults with type 2 diabetes.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the surface characteristics of various implant abutment materials, such as of titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V; Ma), machined cobalt-chrome-molybdenum alloy (CCM), titanium nitride coating on a titanium alloy disc (TiN), anodic oxidized titanium alloy disc (AO), composite resin coating on a titanium alloy disc (Res), and zirconia disc (Zr), using confocal microscopy and white light interferometry. Measurements from the 2 methods were evaluated to see if these methods would give equivalent results. The precision of measurements were evaluated by the coefficient of variation.

Background: This study sought to evaluate whether a poor increase in inferior P-wave amplitude during sympathetic stimulation might be a helpful diagnostic tool for sick sinus syndrome (SSS).

Methods and results: Three-dimensional electroanatomic mapping of the right atrium, inferior P-wave amplitude and conventional corrected sinus node recovery time (CSNRT) were compared in 112 consecutive atrial fibrillation (AF) patients with (n=21) and without SSS (n=91). The significant cranial shift of earliest activation site (EAS) (the distance from the superior vena cava to the EAS: 11.

Background: The present study was performed for elucidating the associations between the morphology of the papillary muscles (PMs) and sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed history, laboratory data, electrocardiography, echocardiography, coronary angiography, and cardiac CT/MRI for 190 patients with SCA. The prevalence of accessory PMs and PM hypertrophy in patients with SCA of unknown cause was compared with that in patients with SCA of known causes and 98 age- and sex-matched patients without SCA.

Purpose: Many experts have proposed the treatment of titanium surfaces with plastic or nonmetal tips to prevent damage to implant surfaces by metal instruments during professional cleaning. It is also known that any material that is softer than titanium may leave remnants of itself on the treated surface. The aim of this study was to quantify the surface area covered by plastic remnants after instrumentation with various plastic instruments and to evaluate the efficacy of the removal of these remnants by confocal microscopy.

Background: The serotonin receptor type 3 (Htr3) blocker is associated with QT prolongation and torsades de pointes. However, little is known about effects of Htr3 on the heart arrhythmia.

Methods And Results: An electrophysiological study Involving knock-out (KO) female mice lacking functional Htr3a (Htr3a(-/-)) and their wild-type littermates during non-pregancy (NP) and late pregnancy (LP) was performed.

Aims: We hypothesized that P-wave amplitude in lead I is related to left atrial (LA) remodelling and inter-atrial conduction pattern, and has a predictive value for recurrence after radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) among patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF).

Methods And Results: A total of 525 consecutive patients with PAF (76% male, 56 ± 12 years old) who underwent RFCA were included. We compared pre-procedural sinus rhythm electrocardiograms without antiarrhythmic drug effect with LA volume (CT), LA voltage (NavX), the earliest activation site (EAS) conduction pattern of LA, and clinical recurrence rate.

N-Heterocyclic carbene-stabilized nitric oxide radicals were prepared by direct addition of nitric oxide to two N-heterocyclic carbenes in solution phase. The compounds were fully characterized by X-ray crystallography and EPR. The nitric oxide moiety in the solid compounds obtained can be thermally transferred to another N-heterocyclic carbene, suggesting potential applications to NO delivery.

Background: Recently, a positive association has been reported between hypertension and periodontitis. The authors hypothesized that oral hygiene promotion activities could have an effect on hypertension prevention or the degree of hypertension control. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between oral hygiene behaviors and hypertension using data from a nationally representative survey, the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES).

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a multifactorial disease with complex pathophysiology. Although restoring sinus rhythm delays the progression of atrial remodeling, non-pharmacologic intervention, such as radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA), should be done based on the background pathophysiology of the disease. While circumferential pulmonary vein isolation (CPVI) has been known to be the cornerstone of AF catheter ablation, a clinical recurrence rate after CPVI is high in patients with persistent AF (PeAF).

The edentulous posterior maxilla is considered a clinical challenge during dental implant treatment for many dental practitioners. This is because its insufficient bone quality, deficient alveolar ridge, spiny ridges, undercuts, and sinus pneumatization are often encountered after tooth loss. To overcome these problems, several approaches have been developed and are currently used, including sinus augmentation and bone augmentation.

Aims: Although circumferential pulmonary vein isolation (CPVI) has been considered as the cornerstone for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) ablation, there has been a substantial recurrence rate. We conducted a prospectively randomized study to evaluate whether additional linear ablation from the superior vena cava (SVC) to the right atrial (RA) septum (SVC-L) improves the clinical outcome.

Methods And Results: This study enroled 200 patients with PAF (male 74.

Aims: Although the concept of radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) for atrial fibrillation (AF) was derived from maze surgery, it is unclear if linear ablation in addition to circumferential pulmonary vein isolation (CPVI) reduces the recurrence rate in patients with paroxysmal AF. Therefore, we compared clinical outcomes of CPVI with additional linear ablations (Dallas lesion set) and CPVI in a prospective randomized controlled study among patients with paroxysmal AF.

Methods And Results: This study enrolled 100 paroxysmal AF patients (male 75.
