Immunotherapy inhibiting the programmed death-1/programmed death ligand-1 (PD-1/PD-L1) interaction has emerged as one of the most attractive cancer treatment strategies. So far, the clinically used PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors are monoclonal antibodies, but monoclonal antibodies have several limitations, such as poor pharmacokinetic properties, unchecked immune responses and high production cost. The development of small-molecule inhibitors targeting PD-1/PD-L1 interaction is showing great promise as a potential alternative or complementary therapeutic approach of monoclonal antibodies.

Seed germination and formation are the beginning and ending, respectively, of a plant life cycle. These two processes are under fine regulation by the internal genetic information. Previously, we demonstrated that MIDASIN 1 (MDN1) is required for ribosome biogenesis, and its dysfunction leads to pleiotropic developmental phenotypes, including impaired embryogenesis and slow seed germination.

Article Synopsis
  • Calcineurin inhibitors like tacrolimus are essential for organ transplants but can harm kidney function, impacting long-term survival post-transplant.
  • A pilot study tested low-dose tacrolimus combined with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) on 16 kidney transplant patients, comparing it to a standard tacrolimus dosage in another 16 patients.
  • Results showed that patients receiving the low-dose and MSCs had stable kidney function and similar outcomes at 24 months, suggesting that MSCs allow for safer, lower doses of calcineurin inhibitors without additional toxicity.
