Article Synopsis
  • Single-factor interventions like exercise and sensory stimulation can help with Alzheimer’s disease (AD), but their effects are limited and not well-understood, prompting a study on multifactor interventions.
  • The study investigated the combined effects of voluntary exercise and acoustic-visual stimulation on neurogenesis and behavior in a mouse model of AD, finding significant improvements in new cell production and cognitive function after 4 weeks.
  • Results showed that multifactor interventions led to a higher differentiation of new cells into neurons and astrocytes, improved cognitive abilities, reduced anxiety and depression-like behaviors, altered protein levels linked to brain health, and positively impacted metabolites related to neuronal function.

Physical exercise plays a role on the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD), but the exercise mode and the mechanism for these positive effects is still ambiguous. Here, we investigated the effect of an aerobic interval exercise, running in combination with swimming, on behavioral dysfunction and associated adult neurogenesis in a mouse model of AD. We demonstrate that 4 weeks of the exercise could ameliorate Aβ oligomer-induced cognitive impairment in mice utilizing Morris water maze tests.

'Yunning No.1' lemon, a mutant of Eureka lemon, is originally found in Yunnan province of China and is the main cultivated lemon variety there. In this study, we assembled and annotated its chloroplast genome using Illumina Hiseq-2500 whole genome re-sequencing data.

Secondary brain damage caused by hyperactivation of autophagy and inflammatory responses in neurons plays an important role in hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD). Although previous studies have implicated Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) in the neuroinflammatory response elicited by brain injury, the role and mechanisms of the TLR4-mediated autophagy signaling pathway in neonatal HIBD are still unclear. We hypothesized that this pathway can regulate brain damage by modulating neuron autophagy and neuroinflammation in neonatal rats with HIBD.

Unlabelled: Water deficit is a key factor to induce flowering in many woody plants, but reports on the molecular mechanisms of floral induction and flowering by water deficit are scarce. Here, we analyzed the morphology, cytology, and different hormone levels of lemon buds during floral inductive water deficits. Higher levels of ABA were observed, and the initiation of floral bud differentiation was examined by paraffin sections analysis.

Epidural hematoma (EDH) is a type of life-threatening traumatic brain injury. Little is known about the extent to which EDH may cause neural damage and regenerative response in the cerebral cortex. Here we attempted to explore these issues by using guinea pigs as an experimental model.
