Esophageal fibrosis can develop due to caustic or radiation injuries. Umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) are known to mitigate fibrosis in various organs. However, the potential effects of UC-MSCs on human esophageal fibrosis remain underexplored.

Methods: We used data from the 7th and 8th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted between 2016 and 2020, which surveyed 16,253 individuals.
Background/aim: We aimed to validate clinical decision support tools (CDSTs) to predict real-life effectiveness of vedolizumab (VDZ) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
Methods: We retrospectively enrolled patients with Crohn's disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC) treated with VDZ at 10 tertiary referral centres in Korea between January 2017 and November 2021. We assessed clinical remission (CREM) and response (CRES), corticosteroid-free clinical remission (CSF-CREM) and response (CSF-CRES), biochemical response based on C-reactive protein (BioRES[CRP]) and faecal calprotectin (BioRES[FC]), endoscopic healing (EH), and the need to optimise or switch drugs based on CDST-defined response groups.

Background: Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune condition affecting the neuromuscular junction and causing muscle weakness along with fatigue (myasthenia). When the clinical manifestations of myasthenia gravis are isolated to the eye muscles, only causing weak eye movements, it is referred to as ocular myasthenia gravis, which can mimic a 1 and ½ syndrome.
Case Presentation: An African-American female in her fifties with past medical history of hypertension presented to our outpatient clinic with complaints of blurred vision for two weeks.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between obstructive sleep apnea and morning headache and to assess the improvement of morning headache following positive airway pressure therapy. One hundred and sixteen participants were enrolled in this study; all of them received positive airway pressure therapy for at least 3 months. We checked the differences in various sleep apnea-related parameters according to the presence of morning headache and evaluated the improvement of morning headache following positive airway pressure therapy.

While air filters are generally effective in filtering pollutants such as dust, they encounter a challenge when filtering harmful microorganisms such as mites, bacteria, mold, and viruses. These microorganisms, which are present in public transport and public indoor spaces, tend to proliferate on the surface of the filter media, eventually reintroducing themselves into the air or causing unpleasant odors.

Several epidemiological studies have suggested that 15%-40% of IBD patients are obese, and there is a potential role of obesity in the pathogenesis of IBD. The dysfunction of mesenteric fat worsens the inflammatory course of Crohn's disease and may induce formation of strictures or fistulas.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can induce immune modification, resulting in tissue repair and regeneration. Therefore, we used a rat model of radiation-induced proctitis and observed the effects of using human placenta-derived (PD) and adipose tissue-derived (AD) MSCs.

This study aimed to develop a convolutional neural network (CNN) to identify the risk of OSA using lateral cephalograms.
Methods: The lateral cephalograms of 5,648 individuals (mean age, 49.
Background: Previous studies have shown a close relationship between skipping breakfast and nutritional deficiency. However, the impact of regular eating, including lunch and dinner, has not been studied well. We explored the correlation between regularity and frequency of daily meals and nutritional status.

Recently, we demonstrated that prostaglandins E1 (PGE1) and PGA1 directly bind to the ligand-binding domain (LBD) of Nurr1 and stimulate its transcriptional activation function. In this direction, here we report the transcriptional activation of Nurr1 by PGA2, a dehydrated metabolite of PGE2, through physical binding ably supported by NMR titration and crystal structure.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective review of medical records was performed for pediatric patients who underwent PITA from March 1, 2017, to February 28, 2021, at a tertiary referral medical center in South Korea. Postoperative pain and nausea were measured using the visual analogue scale (VAS) from the postoperative day (POD) 0 to POD 6.

Introduction And Importance: Candida arthritis is a very rare disease and Candida parapsilosis infection of the native knee joint is extremely rare. It is challenging to diagnose and treat because the clinical manifestations, laboratory and radiologic findings are not specific and not well defined. We report the rare case of C.

Progestogens are typically added to estrogens to prevent unopposed endometrial stimulation. The effects of progestogen on BP have been less well studied to date.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of digital tomosynthesis (DTS) screening of individuals that had contacted persons with active TB using low-dose computed tomography (CT) as the reference standard methods.
Material And Methods: This retrospective, community-based screening study of 90 adults who had been in close contact with a TB case was undertaken at our institution.
Background: The purpose of our study was to assess the use of opioids before and after hip fracture in elderly patients in order to determine the effect of opioid use on all-cause mortality, and to analyze how the history of opioid use before fracture increases the risk of sustained use following hip fracture using a Korea nationwide cohort.
Methods: Our study identified hip fracture patients from the Korean National Health Insurance Service-Senior cohort. The index date was defined as 90-days after admission to the acute care hospital that fulfilled the eligibility criteria of elderly hip fracture.
Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of opioids before and after total hip arthroplasty (THA), to find out the effect of opioid use on mortality in patients with THA, and to analyze whether preoperative opioid use is a risk factor for sustained opioid use after surgery using Korean nationwide cohort data.
Methods: This retrospective nationwide study identified subjects from the Korean National Health Insurance Service-Sample cohort (NHIS-Sample) compiled by the Korean NHIS. The index date (time zero) was defined as 90 days after an admission to a hospital to fulfill the eligibility criteria of the THA.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of frailty among an older adult population living in rural communities and to determine if frailty is associated with nutritional status after adjusting for sarcopenia and depression.
Materials And Methods: This research used baseline data from the Namgaram-2 study. Frailty was evaluated using the Kaigo-Yobo checklist in an older Korean population.
Background And Purpose: Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is one of the uncommon causes of ischemic stroke, and is associated with young and female patients. However, the significance of antiphospholipid antibody (aPL) in older ischemic stroke patients is uncertain. We aimed to examine the significance of aPLs in ischemic stroke in these older patients.

Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between nutritional status and health-related quality of life after adjusting for essential factors of muscle mass, calf circumference, grip strength, and the timed up and go (TUG) test for diagnosis of sarcopenia.
Methods: The subjects of this study were those who visited a health care center or a senior welfare center among the aged 65 years or older living in a community in two counties (Jinju, Sacheon), and the survey was conducted from April to August 2019. Among them, those with cardiovascular disease, cognitive disorder, or malignancy were excluded.
Background: Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) play an important role in the endocrine therapy of postmenopausal breast cancer patients, with a recent tendency to extend the duration of their use. However, AIs may increase the risk of osteoporotic bone fractures. This meta-analysis evaluated the risk of osteoporotic fractures of the hip, spine, and other locations in breast cancer patients using AIs.
