Adult (3 month) mice with cardiac-specific overexpression of adenylyl cyclase (AC) type VIII (TG) adapt to an increased cAMP-induced cardiac workload (~30% increases in heart rate, ejection fraction and cardiac output) for up to a year without signs of heart failure or excessive mortality. Here, we show classical cardiac hypertrophy markers were absent in TG, and that total left ventricular (LV) mass was not increased: a reduced LV cavity volume in TG was encased by thicker LV walls harboring an increased number of small cardiac myocytes, and a network of small interstitial proliferative non-cardiac myocytes compared to wild type (WT) littermates; Protein synthesis, proteosome activity, and autophagy were enhanced in TG vs WT, and Nrf-2, Hsp90α, and ACC2 protein levels were increased. Despite increased energy demands in vivo LV ATP and phosphocreatine levels in TG did not differ from WT.

Nitrogen ions were implanted into the coated Nb layer by plasma immersion ion implantation to improve resistance to corrosion of a metal bipolar plate. Due to nitrogen implantation, the corrosion behavior of the Nb layer was enhanced. The electron microscope observation reveals that the microstructure of the Nb layer became denser and had fewer defects with increasing implantation energy.

Artificial assembly of organic-inorganic heterostructures for electrochemical energy storage at the molecular level is promising, but remains a great challenge. Here, a covalently interlayer-confined organic (polyaniline [PANI])-inorganic (MoS ) hybrid with a dual charge-storage mechanism is developed for boosting the reaction kinetics of supercapacitors. Systematic characterizations reveal that PANI induces a partial phase transition from the 2H to 1T phases of MoS , expands the interlayer spacing of MoS , and increases the hydrophilicity.

Retinoids, one of the most robust bioactive materials, have been widely used to improve various dermatological and pathological conditions. The body has an endogenous mechanism that modulates the exogenous retinoid above physiological concentrations, which limits the bioavailability or pharmacological efficacy of retinoids. The aim of the study was to develop and evaluate cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) among college students with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). We randomly assigned 60 college students with IBS comorbid insomnia to the experimental group who received CBT-I for 90 min once a week for 4 weeks and the control (non-CBT-I) group. Participants completed self-report measures of insomnia severity, pre-sleep arousal, sleep-related dysfunctional cognitions, maladaptive sleep habits, IBS symptom severity and IBS quality of life (QOL) at baseline, after intervention, and at 3-month follow-up.

In this chapter, we leverage a novel approach to assess the seamless population structure of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, using the full repertoire of genomes sequenced to date (GenBank, April 6, 2020). In order to assess the set of core functions that represents the species as well as the differences in these core functions among the phylogroups observed in the population structure analysis, we performed pangenome analyses at the species level and at the phylogroup level. The existence of the phylogroups described in the population structure analyses was supported by their different profiles of antibiotic-resistant determinants.
