The utilization of small organic molecules with appropriate functional groups and geometric configurations for surface passivation is essential for achieving efficient and stable perovskite solar cells (PSCs). In this study, two isomers, 4-sulfonamidobenzoic acid (4-SA) and 3-sulfamobenzoic acid (3-SA), both featuring sulfanilamide and carboxyl functional groups arranged in different positions, are evaluated for their effectiveness in passivating defects of the perovskite layer. The calculation and characterization results reveal that 3-SA, with its meta-substitution, offered superior passivation compared to the para-substituted 4-SA, leading to enhanced charge carrier dynamics and extraction efficiency.

Background: Zinner syndrome (ZS) is a congenital malformation characterized by a triad of mesonephric (Wolffian) duct dysplasia, first identified by Zinner in 1914. The classical presentation of ZS includes unilateral renal hypoplasia or dysplasia, ipsilateral seminal vesicle cysts, and obstruction of the ejaculatory duct. This case presents a rare variant of the syndrome, where an ejaculatory duct cyst is observed instead of the typical ipsilateral seminal vesicle cyst.

Geometric microengineering of the active layer in a piezoelectric sensor has emerged as a hot topic to improve performance but meets challenges due to the brittle nature of piezoelectric ceramics. Here, we demonstrate that fs-laser-induced compressive stress leads to film bulging in the nanoscale and forms various shapes of nanostructures, including nanobumps, nanovolcanoes, and nanocaves on PbZrTiO (PZT) films, in a single-step, mask-free, large-scale, and rapid fashion. Highly reproducible 3D profiles of the nanostructures are finely controlled by carefully adjusting the laser energy density around the ablation threshold.

The incidence of growth hormone deficiency (GHD) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is significantly higher than that of other neuroendocrine disorders, but the mechanism is still elusive. We used mass spectrometry to identify differentially expressed proteins in cerebrospinal fluid samples from a well-characterized cohort of patients. Designing highly active and stable bifunctional catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) under alkaline conditions is crucial for sustainable overall water splitting. Herein, we present a targeted reconstruction of NiS by introducing tantalum, achieving remarkable overall water splitting performance through the separate activation of the lattice oxygen mechanism and hydrogen spillover. Electrochemical Mass Spectrometry and in-situ Raman spectroscopy reveal that tantalum induces NiS to reconstruct into nickel hydroxide during OER, thereby enhancing catalytic activity via the activation of the lattice oxygen mechanism.

Cargo terminals, as pivotal hubs of mechanical activities, maritime shipping, and land transportation, are significant sources of air pollutants, exhibiting considerable spatiotemporal heterogeneity due to the complex and irregular nature of emissions. This study employed a high-density air sensor network with 17 sites across four functional zones in two Shanghai cargo terminals to monitor NO and NO concentrations with high spatiotemporal resolution post sensor data validation against regulatory monitoring stations. Notably, NO and NO concentrations within the terminal surged during the night, peaking at 06:00 h, likely due to local regulations on heavy-duty diesel trucks.

Methods: We determined the casual relationship between 732 kinds of circulating proteins and the 24 kinds of gastrointestinal diseases via Mendelian randomization analysis.

Results: Four circulating proteins (FCGR3B, IL-12B, MAPKAPK2, and IL-23R) were associated with the occurrence of ulcerative colitis (UC), and IL23R was also correlated with risk of Crohn's disease (CD).

Metal halide scintillators serve as a compelling substitute for traditional scintillators in X-ray detection and imaging due to their low-temperature fabrication process, high light yield and mechanical flexibility. Nevertheless, the spatial resolution and photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of these films are hindered by the agglomeration and uneven distribution of metal halides crystal particles during the fabrication process. We introduce a modified fabrication approach for metal halide scintillator films involving an additional step of ethyl acetate (EA) treatment, resulting in the preparation of a smooth EA-treated (Ph4P)2MnBr4/Polydimethylsiloxane film.
