Objective: We hypothesized that there may be a prognostic difference in age between the genders and evaluated the influence of gender-adjusted age on prognosis in upper tract urothelial carcinoma patients.
Methods: A total of 839 patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma from a retrospective multi-institutional cohort were included. The patients were divided into four groups consisting of males (N = 610) and females (N = 229) according to age ((i) <60 years, (ii) 60-69.
Objectives: To investigate the impact of perioperative plasma fibrinogen level as a biomarker of oncological outcome in localised renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
Patients And Methods: We consecutively identified 601 patients with localised RCC who underwent curative surgery at a single institution. Subsequent disease recurrence and cancer-specific survival (CSS) were assessed using the Kaplan-Meier method.
Background: Previous studies showed the prognostic impact of preoperative levels of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), plasma fibrinogen, and serum C-reactive protein (CRP) in surgically treated upper tract urothelial carcinoma; however, few papers have discussed the proper use of these indices.
Objective: To investigate whether combinations of these three markers, as a cumulative marker score (CMS), improve the accuracy of prognostic models following radical nephroureterectomy (RNU).
Design, Setting, And Participants: A total of 394 patients from multiple institutions were included.
Purpose: Current guidelines do not yet provide any recommendations for adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma managed with radical nephroureterectomy. We evaluated whether an adjuvant chemotherapeutic regimen would affect the clinical outcome in patients with high risk upper tract urothelial carcinoma.
Materials And Methods: We identified 873 patients who had undergone radical nephrouretectomy for localized upper tract urothelial carcinoma at 14 Japanese institutions between 1993 and 2011.
Background: To externally validate the prognostic impact of preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (pre-NLR) in patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) following radical nephroureterectomy (RNU).
Methods: A total of 665 patients from 12 institutions were included. The median follow-up was 28 months.
Background: Few studies have described the clinical courses and outcomes in the bladder after treatment of intravesical recurrence after radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) in patients with primary upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). We investigated the indicators for predicting subsequent bladder outcomes after treatment of intravesical recurrence after RNU.
Methods: A total of 241 patients with primary UTUC (pTa-4N0M0) who experienced intravesical recurrence after RNU were included.
Purpose: To investigate the site-specific pattern of disease recurrence and/or metastasis and the associated patient outcomes after radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC).
Methods: A total of 733 patients with UTUC from a retrospective multi-institutional cohort were included, with a median follow-up of 34 months. Associated patient outcomes were analyzed by multivariate analysis.
Background And Objective: Few studies have addressed the predictive value of positive urine cytology for prognosis in patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). We investigated whether the status of preoperative urine cytology could provide additional prognostic information following radical nephroureterectomy (RNU).
Materials And Methods: The study included 474 patients with primary nonmetastatic UTUC (pTa-4N0M0) from a retrospective multi-institutional cohort.
Objectives: We evaluated the types of patient factors that influence the efficacy and safety of solifenacin add-on therapy to tamsulosin in men with overactive bladder (OAB) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Methods: A total of 130 BPH patients with persistent OAB symptoms despite undergoing alpha1-adrenagic antagonist monotherapy were enrolled in this study. Their OAB symptoms persisted after monotherapy consisting of tamsulosin 0.
Objectives: To investigate oncological outcomes and prognostic factors in patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) who experienced disease recurrence after radical nephroureterectomy (RNU). Few studies have focused on the clinical courses of patients who experienced disease recurrence after RNU.
Patients And Methods: A total of 204 UTUC patients who experienced disease recurrence from a retrospective multi-institutional cohort were included in the present study.
Objective: To introduce the new preoperative parameter as a predictor for extracapsular extension (ECE), we defined the presence of tumor at the stump of the rectum side on prostate needle biopsy as a positive posterior margin (PPM), and speculated that PPM is related to ECE.
Methods: This retrospective study was conducted in 230 patients who underwent prostate needle biopsy and retropubic radical prostatectomy between 2001 and 2011. We analyzed the association between their clinicopathological parameters and ECE.
Background: Few studies have discussed the prognostic impact of serum C-reactive protein (CRP) level in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC).
Objective: To investigate whether the perioperative level of CRP provides additional prognostic information following radical nephroureterectomy (RNU).
Design, Setting, And Participants: A total of 564 patients with UTUC from a retrospective multi-institutional cohort were included.
Background And Objective: Serum C-reactive protein (CRP) is one particular marker of systemic inflammation, and an elevated CRP level is associated with poor outcome in various malignancies. While the clinical value of CRP levels in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) has not yet been fully evaluated, we investigated the impact of CRP elevation as a biomarker of patient prognosis in UTUC.
Materials And Methods: A total of 183 patients who underwent radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) for localized UTUC (pTa-4N0M0) were identified between 1993 and 2009.
Objective: Downstaging by neoadjuvant chemotherapy improves the survival of patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer. In salvage setting, gemcitabine plus cisplatin has demonstrated an efficacy similar to that of methotrexate, vinblastine, doxorubicin and cisplatin with less toxicity. Therefore, the application of neoadjuvant gemcitabine plus cisplatin is also being anticipated.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA 68-year-old man underwent total cystectomy, urethrectomy preserving fossa navicularis, and an Indiana pouch urinary diversion in 1997. The histopathology was UC, G3, pT4 (prostate). Nine years after the operation, he had multiple metastases to the inguinal and paraaortic lymph nodes (LNs), and he complained of erosion around the glans.
