Cellular receptors regulate physiological responses by interacting with ligands, thus playing a crucial role in intercellular communication. Receptors are categorized on the basis of their location and engage in diverse biochemical mechanisms, which include posttranslational modifications (PTMs). Considering the broad impact and diversity of PTMs on cellular functions, we focus narrowly on neddylation, a modification closely resembling ubiquitination.

This study is a retrospective analysis aimed at understanding the incidence and risk factors of proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) following long-instrumented spinal fusion from L1 to the sacrum in patients with mild to moderate sagittal imbalance. It recruited consecutive patients undergoing instrumented fusion from L1 to the sacrum for degenerative lumbar disease between June 2006 and November 2019 in a single institution. The patients' preoperative clinical data, muscle status at T12-L1 on magnetic resonance images, and sagittal spinopelvic parameters were analyzed.

Irregularities in insulin signaling have significantly increased the risk of various cancers, yet the precise underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Within our study, we observed that inhibiting neddylation enhances cancer cell migration across different cancer types by activating both insulin receptor substrates 1 and 2 (IRS1 and IRS2), along with the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Notably, in the context of high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) patients, whether they had type 2 diabetes mellitus or not, IRS1 and IRS2 displayed a parallel relationship with each other while exhibiting an inverse relationship with NEDD8.

Wireless, Skin-Interfaced Devices for Pediatric Critical Care: Application to Continuous, Noninvasive Blood Pressure Monitoring.

Indwelling arterial lines, the clinical gold standard for continuous blood pressure (BP) monitoring in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), have significant drawbacks due to their invasive nature, ischemic risk, and impediment to natural body movement. A noninvasive, wireless, and accurate alternative would greatly improve the quality of patient care. Recently introduced classes of wireless, skin-interfaced devices offer capabilities in continuous, precise monitoring of physiologic waveforms and vital signs in pediatric and neonatal patients, but have not yet been employed for continuous tracking of systolic and diastolic BP-critical for guiding clinical decision-making in the PICU.

Establishing a Patient-centered Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship: Early Results from a Single Institution.

Background: Longitudinal integrated clerkships (LICs) have been adopted by medical schools to overcome the limitations of traditional block clerkship rotations and to promote continuity of care. Purpose: The port site hernia (PSH) is a specific type of incisional hernia related to the trocar sites of laparoscopic surgery. Diastasis recti of the abdominis muscle (DR) is the separation of the rectus muscle by a certain distance. The present study aims to present our experience with umbilical PSH and concomitant DR and to raise awareness of DR as one of the risk factors of umbilical PSH.
