Background: Crowding has been a longstanding issue in emergency departments. To address this, a fast-track system for avoidable patients is being implemented in the Paediatric Emergency Department where our study is conducted. Our goal is to develop an optimized Decision Support System that helps in directing patients to this fast track.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to estimate growth curves and genetic parameters for Nellore cattle in the Pantanal region of Brazil using random regression methodology on a large dataset of calf weights.
  • The research considered various fixed effects, including sex, year of birth, and environmental factors, and showed that calves from the dry season had higher average weights compared to those from other seasons.
  • Results revealed high direct heritability estimates for growth traits (0.35 to 0.75) and low maternal heritability estimates (0.03 to 0.08), suggesting that the random regression approach can help improve selective breeding strategies for future generations.

The purpose of the present study was to perform a preliminary analysis of the fitting of different fiber-reinforced composite (GFRC) posts to tooth root canals and determine the resin cement layer thickness. The following GFRC posts were assessed: bundle posts (Rebilda GT, VOCO, Germany), sleeve system (SAP, Angelus Ind, Brazil), and accessory posts (Reforpin, Angelus, Brazil). Twenty-four freshly extracted mandibular single-rooted pre-molars were endodontically treated and divided into six groups, according to the type of GFRC post and resin cement (self-adhesive or conventional dual-cured).

Vismia japurensis Reichardt is a plant of ecological and chemical importance from which a variety of bioactive substances have been isolated. The current study aimed to establish in vitro cultures of this species as a source of secondary metabolites. Appropriate decontamination treatments and germination tests were performed and, after in vitro culture establishment, the propagated plants were multiplied in a sterile environment to increase the biomass of available experimental material.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the thickness of resin-matrix composite blocks manufactured by CAD-CAM on the light transmittance towards different resin-matrix cements or flowable composites.

Methods: Sixty specimens of resin-matrix composite CAD-CAM blocks reinforced with 89 wt% inorganic fillers were cross-sectioned with 2 or 3 mm thicknesses. The specimens were conditioned with adhesive system and divided in groups according to the luting material, namely: two dual-cured resin-matrix cements, two traditional flowable resin-matrix composites, and one thermal-induced flowable resin-matrix composite.

Objective: The main aim of this study was to evaluate the morphological aspects and distribution of granules composed of deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) and human dentin-derived bone graft (HDBG) into a putty consistency mixture.

Materials And Methods: DBBM or HDBG were mixed with an alginate-based hydrogel at two different granule/hydrogel ratio (1:1 and 1:3) and divided into four test groups while two control groups were composed of DBBM or HDBG free of hydrogel. Groups of specimens were cross-sectioned for morphological evaluation by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) at backscattered electrons mode.

Introduction: Zoonotic transmission is a challenge for the control and elimination of malaria. It has been recorded in the Atlantic Forest, outside the Amazon which is the endemic region in Brazil. However, only very few studies have assessed the antibody response, especially of IgM antibodies, in Neotropical primates (NP).

Objectives: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the light transmission through five different resin-matrix composites regarding the inorganic filler content.

Methods: Resin-matrix composite disc-shaped specimens were prepared on glass molds. Three traditional resin-matrix composites contained inorganic fillers at 74, 80, and 89 wt.

Background: In Portugal, trained physicians undertake the clinical coding process, which serves as the basis for hospital reimbursement systems. In 2017, the classification version used for coding of diagnoses and procedures for hospital morbidity changed from the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) to the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification/Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-CM/PCS).

Objective: To assess the perceptions of medical coders on the transition of the clinical coding process from ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM/PCS in terms of its impact on data quality, as well as the major differences, advantages, and problems they faced.

Spotted fever caused by the bacterium Rickettsia parkeri, and canine rangeliosis caused by the protozoan Rangelia vitalii, are emerging or re-emerging tick-borne diseases in Brazil, where the main tick vectors are Amblyomma ovale and Amblyomma aureolatum, respectively. In the present study, we evaluated exposure to R. parkeri and R.

Background: Considering the soaring health-related costs directed toward a growing, aging, and comorbid population, the health sector needs effective data-driven interventions while managing rising care costs. While health interventions using data mining have become more robust and adopted, they often demand high-quality big data. However, growing privacy concerns have hindered large-scale data sharing.

Surface modification of yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals (Y-TZP) using lasers for adhesion enhancement with resin-matrix cement has been increasingly explored. However, Y-TZP is chemically inert and non-reactive, demanding surface modification using alternative approaches to enhance its bond strength to resin-matrix cements. The main aim of this study was to conduct an integrative review on the influence of ultrashort pulse laser patterning of zirconia (3Y-TZP) for enhanced bonding to resin-matrix cements.

The application of machine learning (ML) algorithms to electronic health records (EHR) data allows the achievement of data-driven insights on various clinical problems and the development of clinical decision support (CDS) systems to improve patient care. However, data governance and privacy barriers hinder the use of data from multiple sources, especially in the medical field due to the sensitivity of data. Federated learning (FL) is an attractive data privacy-preserving solution in this context by enabling the training of ML models with data from multiple sources without any data sharing, using distributed remotely hosted datasets.

This short paper describes a remote monitoring platform proposed in the Inno4health project. The platform aims to guide patients and clinicians during the treatment of lower limb vascular disorders, namely, to correct abnormal foot pressure and temperature to prevent diabetic foot ulcers and to monitor interface pressure, leg position and elevation for venous ulcers patients.

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the layer thickness and microstructure of traditional resin-matrix cements and flowable resin-matrix composites at dentin and enamel to composite onlay interfaces after cementation on low loading magnitude.

Materials And Methods: Twenty teeth were prepared and conditioned with an adhesive system for restoration with resin-matrix composite onlays manufactured by CAD-CAM. On cementation, tooth-to-onlay assemblies were distributed into four groups, including two traditional resin-matrix cements (groups M and B), one flowable resin-matrix composite (group G), and one thermally induced flowable composite (group V).

In dentistry, clinicians mainly use dual-cured or light-cured resin-matrix cements to achieve a proper polymerization of the organic matrix leading to enhanced physical properties of the cement. However, several parameters can affect the polymerization of resin-matrix cements. The main aim of the present study was to perform a scoping review on the degree of conversion (DC) of the organic matrix, the polymerization, and the light transmittance of different resin-matrix cements used in dentistry.

Introduction: Healthcare expenditure, a common input used in health systems efficiency analyses is affected by population age structure. However, while age structure is usually considered to adjust health system outputs, health expenditure and other inputs are seldom adjusted. We propose methods for adjusting Health Expenditure per Capita (HEpC) for population age structure on health system efficiency analyses and assess the goodness-of-fit, correlation, reliability and disagreement of different approaches.

Background: Unexpected variability across healthcare datasets may indicate data quality issues and thereby affect the credibility of these data for reutilization. No gold-standard reference dataset or methods for variability assessment are usually available for these datasets. In this study, we aim to describe the process of discovering data quality implications by applying a set of methods for assessing variability between sources and over time in a large hospital database.
