A 73-year-old male received a percutaneous mitral valve repair with a MitraClip to treat severe (grade IV) symptomatic mitral regurgitation (MR). The MitraClip® procedure reduced the MR to grade I, but the patient died 14 days post-procedurally due to a pneumosepsis. Histological analysis of the MitraClip mesh covering showed a chronic inflammatory reaction with an abundance of multinucleated giant cells.
