Variables associated with adherence to the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus among elderly people.

Aim: To estimate the prevalence and variables associated with the adherence to medical treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus in elderly people attending the family healthcare units in Ribeirão Preto, State of São Paulo, Brazil.

Methods: This is a population-based household survey with a random conglomerate sample of 338 elderly people. Treatment adherence was measured with the Brief Medication Questionnaire.

[Pharmacist care in the Brazilian primary health care system].

This paper presents a review and analysis of Pharmacist Care as an integrated part of the Primary Health Care System, in which quality use of medicines is directly related to quality health service and to elements for its evaluation. In our country the Basic Health Units represent the main entrance to the public health care system. The pharmaceutical services however are still linked to the care model centered in medical consultation and emergency care, with the pharmacy just satisfying their needs.
