Developing a Mental Health Screening Questionnaire in an Asian Children's Hospital Emergency Setting.

Introduction: Mental health concerns among adolescents are increasingly prevalent, yet underrecognized. Adolescents with psychological distress often present to the emergency department (ED) with somatic symptoms. Due to inadequate time for rapport building and lack of familiarity of ED clinicians with psychosocial evaluation, these concerns often get missed.

Prevalence and risk factors associated with low bone mineral density in Asian adolescents with anorexia nervosa and atypical anorexia nervosa.

Objective: This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors for low bone mineral density (BMD) at diagnosis in Asian adolescent females with anorexia nervosa (AN) and atypical AN.

Method: We analyzed the BMD results for 213 patients between 10 and 18 years of age, with AN and atypical AN receiving care at a pediatric hospital in Singapore. We used linear regression analyses to determine if type of eating disorder, premorbid weight, and duration of amenorrhea were risk factors for low BMD.

Acral-accentuated exanthem in an infant with parechovirus meningitis.

We report a case of an infant who had presented with fever and an acral-accentuated rash, for which his cerebrospinal fluid returned positive for parechovirus. He was treated symptomatically and discharged well, with no long-term complications.

Addressing parental bereavement support needs at the end of life for infants with complex chronic conditions.

Introduction: Health care providers' understandings of parental bereavement needs before and in the acute period following the death of an infant with a complex chronic condition are based upon models that outline the process of grief and provide direction for possible points of intervention. These models do not address prospective factors along the illness trajectory that may contribute to the depth and debilitating nature of grief, and fail to clarify the influence of social structures on parents' experience and construct of grief, loss, and mourning. The purpose of this study was to prospectively describe the bereavement experience of parents whose infants die in acute care settings with a complex chronic condition.
