What do medical students, residents and graduated physicians think about occupational physicians? A cross-national survey on stereotypes.

Introduction: French medical students can access occupational medicine after passing the residency examination. Few studies have looked at the lack of attractiveness of occupational medicine, contributing to the demographic decline of occupational physicians (OPs). The purpose of this study was to explore the stereotypes of OPs by their colleagues at different levels of formation to understand the determinants of the current lack of attractiveness.

Unmet educational needs and expectations among tracheostomy recipients.

Objective: This study seeks to better understand unmet educational needs and treatment expectations in individuals with a tracheostomy.

Study Design: Retrospective, cross-sectional survey.

Methods: A survey was distributed to individuals who received a tracheostomy at a tertiary care center in the last five years as well as in Facebook support groups for tracheostomy and head and neck cancer patients.

Objective: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a significant driver of elevated risk for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC). In 2018, HPV vaccination eligibility was expanded to men and women aged 27 to 45. Impact of processing steps (filtration, creaming and pasteurization) on the botanical classification of honey using LC-QTOF-MS.

The present study investigated the impact of filtration, creaming and pasteurization on the authentication of the botanical origin of honey using the dilute-and-shoot method in liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The analytical method performances were satisfactory (analyte recoveries ranging from 95 % to 103 % and inter-day precision below 12 %). Three types of raw honeys including blueberry, canola and clover were processed under controlled conditions.

Background: Environmental mycobacteria are involved in several infections ranging from lung to skin infections. In Côte d'Ivoire, apart from Mycobacterium ulcerans and Mycobacterium tuberculosis, little information exists on other species. Effects of summer treatments against Varroa destructor on viral load and colony performance of Apis mellifera colonies in Eastern Canada.

Despite the use of various integrated pest management strategies to control the honey bee mite, Varroa destructor, varroosis remains the most important threat to honey bee colony health in many countries. In Canada, ineffective varroa control is linked to high winter colony losses and new treatment options, such as a summer treatment, are greatly needed. In this study, a total of 135 colonies located in 6 apiaries were submitted to one of these 3 varroa treatment strategies: (i) an Apivar® fall treatment followed by an oxalic acid (OA) treatment by dripping method; (ii) same as in (i) with a summer treatment consisting of formic acid (Formic Pro™); and (iii) same as in (i) with a summer treatment consisting of slow-release OA/glycerin pads (total of 27 g of OA/colony).

Swim training induces distinct osseous gene expression patterns in anosteocytic and osteocytic teleost fish.

The traditional understanding of bone mechanosensation implicates osteocytes, canaliculi, and the lacunocanalicular network in biomechanical adaptation. However, recent findings challenge this notion, as shown in advanced teleost fish where anosteocytic bone lacking osteocytes are nevertheless responsive to mechanical load. To investigate specific molecular mechanisms involved in bone mechanoadaptation in osteocytic and anosteocytic fish bone, we conducted a 5-min single swim-training experiment with zebrafish and ricefish, respectively.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a multifactorial neurodegenerative disease with a complex origin, thought to involve a combination of genetic, biological and environmental factors. Insulin dysfunction has emerged as a potential factor contributing to AD pathogenesis, particularly in individuals with diabetes, and among those with insulin deficiency or undergoing insulin therapy. The intraperitoneal administration of streptozotocin (STZ) is widely used in rodent models to explore the impact of insulin deficiency on AD pathology, although prior research predominantly focused on young animals, with no comparative analysis across different age groups.

Soft implantable devices are crucial to optimizing form and function for many patients. However, periprosthetic capsule fibrosis is one of the major challenges limiting the use of implants. Currently, little is understood about how spatial and temporal factors influence capsule physiology and how the local capsule environment affects the implant structure.

Fabrication of LiTiO (LTO) as Anode Material for Li-Ion Batteries.

The most popular anode material in commercial Li-ion batteries is still graphite. However, its low intercalation potential is close to that of lithium, which results in the dendritic growth of lithium at its surface, and the formation of a passivation film that limits the rate capability and may result in safety hazards. High-performance anodes are thus needed.

Methods for Biochemical Isolation of Insoluble Tau in Rodent Models of Tauopathies.

The intracellular accumulation of microtubule-associated protein tau is a characteristic feature of tauopathies, a group of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease. Formation of insoluble tau aggregates is initiated by the abnormal hyperphosphorylation and oligomerization of tau. Over the past decades, multiple transgenic rodent models mimicking tauopathies have been develop, showcasing this neuropathological hallmark.

In commercial dairy production systems, feeding calves once daily could be an alternative to reduce labor expenses. Several studies comparing once-a-day (OAD) versus twice-a-day (TAD) milk feeding systems have not evidenced differences in calf growth, rumen development, blood parameters or health scores, but effect on ruminal microbiota remains to be investigated. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of OAD or TAD on the establishment of the ruminal microbiota and its metabolic activity.

Recent Advances and Strategies in MXene-Based Electrodes for Supercapacitors: Applications, Challenges and Future Prospects.

With the growing demand for technologies to sustain high energy consumption, supercapacitors are gaining prominence as efficient energy storage solutions beyond conventional batteries. MXene-based electrodes have gained recognition as a promising material for supercapacitor applications because of their superior electrical conductivity, extensive surface area, and chemical stability. Waiting for bile duct dilation before repair of bile duct injury: a worthwhile strategy?

Background: Hepaticojejunostomy (HJ) is the gold standard procedure for repairing major bile duct injury (BDI). Dilation status of the BD before repair has not been assessed as a risk factor for anastomotic stricture.

Method: This retrospective single-centre study was performed on a population of 87 patients with BDI repaired by HJ between 2007 and 2021.

While pediatric COVID-19 is rarely severe, a small fraction of children infected with SARS-CoV-2 go on to develop multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C), with substantial morbidity. An objective method with high specificity and high sensitivity to identify current or imminent MIS-C in children infected with SARS-CoV-2 is highly desirable. The aim was to learn about an interpretable novel cytokine/chemokine assay panel providing such an objective classification.

Silver Nanocoating of LiNiCoMnO Cathode Material for Lithium-Ion Batteries.

Surface coating has become an effective approach to improve the electrochemical performance of Ni-rich cathode materials. In this study, we investigated the nature of an Ag coating layer and its effect on electrochemical properties of the LiNiCoMnO (NCM811) cathode material, which was synthesized using 3 mol.% of silver nanoparticles by a facile, cost-effective, scalable and convenient method.

The primary outcome was to describe the diagnostic and management methods for CN according to patient clinical characteristics, the clinical-radiological characteristics of acute and chronic CN and discharge means.

Sensor-Controlled Digital Game for Heart Failure Self-management: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: Heart failure (HF) is the leading cause of hospitalization among older adults in the United States. There are substantial racial and geographic disparities in HF outcomes, with patients living in southern US states having a mortality rate 69% higher than the national average. Self-management behaviors, particularly daily weight monitoring and physical activity, are extremely important in improving HF outcomes; however, patients typically have particularly low adherence to these behaviors.
