Despite the existence of effective rabies vaccines for dogs, dog-transmitted human rabies persists and has reemerged in Africa. Two consecutive dog vaccination campaigns took place in Chad in 2012 and 2013 (coverage of 71% in both years) in the capital city of N'Djaména, as previously published. We developed a deterministic model of dog-human rabies transmission fitted to weekly incidence data of rabid dogs and exposed human cases in N'Djaména.

Recent evidence suggests that protein encoded by the RNA Binding Motif 10 (RBM10) gene has the ability to modulate apoptosis. The objective of this study was to test this hypothesis by manipulating RBM10 expression levels and examining the downstream consequences. The results showed that transient overexpression of RBM10 correlated with significantly elevated levels of tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) mRNA and soluble TNF-α (sTNF-α) protein, and increased apoptosis (phosphatidyl serine exposure on the outer cell membrane and nuclear condensation).

Objective: To assess the effects of oxytocin bolus or infusion on maternal hemodynamics in the third stage of labor.

Methods: In a randomized, double-blind, double-dummy fashion, 99 women received an intravenous oxytocin bolus (10 IU push) and 102 women received an infusion (10 IU in 500 mL saline at 125 mL/h) at delivery of the anterior shoulder. Mean arterial pressure and heart rate were measured every minute for 10 minutes, then every 5 minutes for the next 20 minutes.
