Development of a Rubric for Evaluation of the DNP Portfolio.

A doctor of nursing practice (DNP) portfolio rubric for faculty to use when evaluating student portfolios and for students to use to critique their work is described. No rubrics or tools were found in the literature that provided guidelines to evaluate the extent to which portfolio exemplars meet American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice. The rubric provides criteria to evaluate whether portfolio documents demonstrate achievement of the DNP Essentials at a "developing, proficient, or exceptional" level.

The effect of diphenhydramine on sleep in pediatric burn patients: a secondary analysis.

Adequate sleep is essential for maintaining homeostasis, especially when recovering from an illness; however, studies have shown that sleep disruption and sleep deprivation are common in intensive care unit patients, including children who have sustained burn injury. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of diphenhydramine (DPH) on sleep in pediatric intensive care unit burn patients using Myra Levine's Conservation Model as the organizing framework. For this study, secondary analysis of polysomnography data and retrospective chart review were used.

Assessment of childhood allergy for the primary care practitioner.

Purpose: To update the primary care practitioner on the assessment of common childhood allergic illnesses.

Data Sources: Relevant scientific literature and published clinical practice guidelines.

Conclusions: Atopic children often develop symptoms that occur in a predictable progression from atopic dermatitis to gastrointestinal disturbances, chronic serous otitis media, rhinitis, and asthma.
