Examining the role of specialist palliative care in geriatric care to inform collaborations: a survey on the knowledge, practice and attitudes of geriatricians in providing palliative care.

Background: The global population is ageing, and rates of multimorbidity and chronic illness are rapidly rising. Given specialist palliative care has been shown to improve overall care and reduce health care costs, how best to provide this care to older people is internationally significant.

Aim: To examine the knowledge, attitudes and practices of geriatricians in providing palliative care and working with specialist palliative care services.

Psychosocial volunteer support for older adults with cognitive impairment: development of MyCare Ageing using a codesign approach via action research.

Background And Objectives: Older adults with cognitive impairment are vulnerable to frequent hospital admissions and emergency department presentations. The aim of this study was to use a codesign approach to develop MyCare Ageing, a programme that will train volunteers to provide psychosocial support to older people with dementia and/or delirium in hospital and at home when discharged from hospital.

Setting: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Does delivering preventive services in primary care reduce adolescent risky behavior?

Purpose: To determine whether the delivery of preventive services changes adolescent behavior. This exploratory study examined the trajectory of risk behavior among adolescents receiving care in three pediatric clinics, in which a preventive services intervention was delivered during well visits.

Methods: The intervention consisted of screening and brief counseling from a provider, followed by a health educator visit.

Increasing the screening and counseling of adolescents for risky health behaviors: a primary care intervention.

Objective: To determine whether a systems intervention for primary care providers resulted in increased preventive screening and counseling of adolescent patients, compared with the usual standard of care.

Methods: The intervention was conducted in 2 outpatient pediatric clinics; 2 other pediatric clinics in the same health maintenance organization served as comparison sites. The intervention was implemented in 2 phases: first, pediatric primary care providers attended a training workshop (N = 37) to increase screening and counseling of adolescents in the areas of tobacco, alcohol, drugs, sexual behavior, and safety (seatbelt and helmet use).
