Background/aims: We wished to determine whether the pupillary light reaction can differentiate preclinical Alzheimer's disease (AD) subjects from normal ageing controls. We performed a prospective study evaluating the pupillary light reaction in a cohort of well-characterised subjects with preclinical AD versus normal ageing controls.
Methods: We recruited 57 subjects from our institution's Memory and Aging Project, part of our Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.
Importance: Identifying risk factors for radiation-induced optic neuropathy (RION) could promote a more conservative approach to radiation treatment planning in vulnerable patients.
Background: This study explored possible factors beyond radiation dose associated with the development of RION after external beam radiation therapy.
Design: This was a retrospective case-control study conducted at a university hospital tertiary care center.
Background: To explore the relationship between diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) hyperintensity of the optic nerve head (ONH) and papilledema grade in patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH).
Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted of patients with definitively diagnosed IIH by clinical examination and visual field (VF) analysis who underwent orbital magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) within 4 weeks of diagnosis. A neuroradiologist masked to the diagnosis assessed the results of DWI for each eye independently and graded the signal intensity of the ONH into none, mild, and prominent categories.
Cone-rod homeobox (CRX) protein is a "paired-like" homeodomain transcription factor that is essential for regulating rod and cone photoreceptor transcription. Mutations in human CRX are associated with the dominant retinopathies Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), Cone-Rod Dystrophy (CoRD) and Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), with variable severity. Heterozygous Crx Knock-Out (KO) mice ("+/-") have normal vision as adults and fail to model the dominant human disease.

The clinical course, serologic testing results, and brain and spinal cord imaging of these diseases have been well documented.
