Learning-Based Inverse Bi-Scale Material Fitting From Tabular BRDFs.

Relating small-scale structures to large-scale appearance is a key element in material appearance design. Bi-scale material design requires finding small-scale structures - meso-scale geometry and micro-scale BRDFs - that produce a desired large-scale appearance expressed as a macro-scale BRDF. The adjustment of small-scale geometry and reflectances to achieve a desired appearance can become a tedious trial-and-error process.

Occupational Therapy in the Promotion of Health and Well-Being.

A balanced pattern of occupations enhances the health and fulfills the needs of individuals, families, communities, and populations (American Occupational Therapy Association [AOTA], 2014b; Hocking, 2019; Meyer, 1922). Occupations are personalized "everyday activities that people do as individuals, in families, and with communities to occupy time and bring meaning and purpose to life" (World Federation of Occupational Therapists, 2012, para. 2).

PaperCraft3D: Paper-Based 3D Modeling and Scene Fabrication.

A 3D modeling system with all-inclusive functionality is too demanding for a casual 3D modeler to learn. There has been a shift towards more approachable systems, with easy-to-learn, intuitive interfaces. However, most modeling systems still employ mouse and keyboard interfaces, despite the ubiquity of tablet devices and the benefits of multi-touch interfaces.

Simulation of Textile Stains.

Modeling virtual textiles has long been an appealing topic in computer graphics. To date, considerable effort has been devoted to their distinctive appearance and physically-based simulation. The apperance of staining patterns, commonly seen on textiles, has received comparatively little attention.

Re-evaluation of a LEED Platinum Building: Occupant experiences of health and comfort.

Background: There is a need to better understand the perceived experiences of workers in green buildings as the literature to this point has been mixed.

Objectives: To re-evaluate occupant experiences within a LEED platinum building and investigate current experiences in general.

Methods: An online post occupancy evaluation (POE) survey of 62 occupants of LEED Platinum building on a US college campus is reported.

Effectiveness of Occupational Therapy Interventions for Lower-Extremity Musculoskeletal Disorders: A Systematic Review.

Lower-extremity (LE) musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) can have a major impact on the ability to carry out daily activities. The effectiveness of interventions must be examined to enable occupational therapy practitioners to deliver the most appropriate services. This systematic review examined the literature published between 1995 and July 2014 that investigated the effectiveness of occupational therapy interventions for LE MSDs.

Using the WEIS-SR to evaluate employee perceptions of their college work environment.

Background: Colleges have been experiencing reduced resource allocations, shifting student expectations, and organizational change. These changes increase employee stress at all levels. Ensuring that employee needs are being met and promoting a healthy and productive workforce has never been more important.

A call for sustainable practice in occupational therapy.

Background: The ability of the earth to sustain health among humans and in the natural world is under threat from overpopulation, environmental degradation, and climate change. These global threats are anticipated to harm health and human occupation in many direct and indirect ways. Strategies are needed to mitigate the effects of these threats and to build individual and community capacities to foster resilience.

Effects of Approximate Filtering on the Appearance of Bidirectional Texture Functions.

The BTF data structure was a breakthrough for appearance modeling in computer graphics. More research is needed though to make BTFs practical in rendering applications. We present the first systematic study of the effects of Approximate filtering on the appearance of BTFs, by exploring the spatial, angular and temporal domains over a varied set of stimuli.

The importance of ergonomics to sustainability throughout a building's life cycle.

Protecting and conserving environmental resources is a global concern. Over the past decade, a number of certification processes have emerged to help designers and operators of buildings assess the potential impact of a building on the environment. Certifications such as the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) consider the environmental impact through the lifecycle of a building, but may not be considering the people that construct and utilize it.

Intergenerational service learning with elders: multidisciplinary activities and outcomes.

This article provides an overview of the activities included in a 3-year, multidisciplinary, intergenerational service-learning project conducted as part of a Foundation for Long-Term Care Service Learning: Linking Three Generations grant. Courses from four departments (gerontology, psychology, occupational therapy, and health promotion and physical education) and one interdisciplinary clinical intervention for stroke patients (speech pathology, occupational therapy, and therapeutic recreation) were involved. Service-learning activities were embedded in course curricula and varied from semester-long activities in group settings to activities involving one-on-one contact for several hours.
