It is well recognized that the world population is ageing rapidly. Therefore, it is important to understand ageing processes at the cellular and molecular levels to predict the onset of age-related diseases and prevent them. Recent research has focused on the identification of ageing biomarkers, including those associated with the properties of the Golgi apparatus.

Article Synopsis
  • Plant-derived arabinogalactan proteins (AGP) are confirmed to have immunological and dermatological effects, but their role in skin innate immunity is less understood.
  • In a study, AGP were extracted from acacia and baobab seeds and were shown to enhance cell viability without being toxic to HaCaT keratinocyte cells.
  • qRT-PCR analysis revealed that these AGP significantly increased the expression of skin-related immune response genes, suggesting their potential role in modulating skin innate immunity.
