For the first time, the 9% Ni steel is being used in CO injection units in floating production storage offloading vessels. Pipe joints welded with nickel-based superalloy 625 as the filler metal present difficulties in ultrasonic inspection owing to the sonic attenuation and deviation caused by the anisotropic and coarse-grained weld metal. This study aims to conduct a probability of detection (POD) to evaluate the discontinuity detection reliability in 9% Ni steel arc welded joints.

Noncoding RNAs control critical cellular processes, although their contribution to disease remains largely unexplored. Dyskerin associates with hundreds of H/ACA small RNAs to generate a multitude of functionally distinct ribonucleoproteins (RNPs). The DKC1 gene, encoding dyskerin, is mutated in the multisystem disorder X-linked dyskeratosis congenita (X-DC).

The effect of seven disintegrins (albolabrin, barbourin, bitistatin, echistatin, eristostatin, flavoridin, and kistrin) and the neurotoxin analogue, mambin, on the adhesion of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) to immobilized vitronectin and fibronectin has been studied. Adhesion to vitronectin was significantly inhibited by echistatin, kistrin, flavoridin, and mambin. Echistatin, flavoridin, and kistrin bound with high affinity to immobilized alpha V beta 3 in solid phase assay; other disintegrins bound at a much lower level.

Ten patients, who underwent computerized tomography (CT) study during evaluation for first episode schizophreniform psychosis were restudied an average of 7 years later. Of the 10 patients, 7 were found to carry a diagnosis of schizophrenia at follow-up. In this subgroup, there was no significant change in the mean ventricular brain ratio measure of cerebral ventricular size between the index and follow-up scans.

Zinc deficiency has been linked to a bleeding tendency and impaired wound healing in several disease states. A number of investigators have suggested that zinc ions play a role in platelet aggregation in vitro as well as in in vivo studies. The purpose of the present study was to explore the mechanism by which adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and Zn2+ may act cooperatively during activation of blood platelets.

Few controlled studies of neurologic function in frontal leukotomy patients have been done. The authors compared neurologic examinations of patients who had bilateral leukotomies with those of psychiatric control subjects matched for age, diagnosis, and duration of illness. Cranial nerve dysfunction, abnormal involuntary movements, and primitive reflexes were common.

Earlier cross-sectional studies have suggested that CT findings of ventricular enlargement and increased cortical markings in schizophrenic patients are not progressive, but individual patients have rarely been followed prospectively. Fifteen patients with chronic schizophrenia were rescanned on the same model machine after 7 to 9 years of continuous illness and, in seven cases, of continuous hospitalisation. It was not possible to demonstrate significant changes in either ventricular-brain ratio or frontal atrophy scores.

In two studies [a pilot (12 7- to 10-yr.-olds) and a main study (100 8- to 12-yr.-olds)] hyperactive and normal children were compared on the ability to estimate time intervals ranging from 7 to 60 sec.

For an experimental study with pre- and post-DMFS measures two methods of analysis were compared with respect to precision. It is shown that for large sample size, the analysis of covariance with the post-DMFS measure as criterion and the pre-DMFS measure as the covariate will be more precise than the analysis of variance of increment scores as the value of beta differs from 1. When beta is approximately 1, the two techniques will have essentially the same precision.

Within- and between-examiner reliability estimates were considered for standardization data. However, within-examiner stability was demonstrated to be the important measure of examiner consistency in the clinical trial because it directly affects the precision of the study. Finally, an argument is also made against the use of reversal rates in the assessment of examiner consistency.

Examiners in clinical control programs customarily undergo an intensive period of training to standardize their interpretation of diagnostic criteria. Data are presented summarizing examiner error rates in calibration examinations and reversal rates in a field study.
