This study describes the evaluation of the effectiveness of different soil covers on the development, productivity, yield and metabolic content of patchouli oil (Pogostemon cablin) and its hydrolate. The agronomic experiments were carried out in the field, including four types of soil cover and six replications (4 x 6), using green cover (peanut), straw (crotalaria and millet straw), white plastic cover, and no mulch (weeding). After transplanting, the initial growth of seedlings was analyzed through weekly monitoring of plant height, stem diameter, and the number of leaves.

Materials/methods: People with hemiplegic gait participated in stroke-adapted-CRP; otherwise, traditional-CRP. Reasons for non-completion were ascertained by interview.
To assess the effect of vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) on the esophageal and intestinal morphology of western diet (WD)-obese rats and to characterize the stomach histopathology of WD rats submitted to VSG. Male Wistar rats received WD from 2-4 months of age, to induce obesity, before randomly submitting them to pseudo (WD-SHAM), VSG (WD-VSG) or RYGB (WD-RYGB) surgeries. Gastrointestinal histomorphometry was performed at 3-months post-surgery.

However, it is unclear whether this endocrine disruptor (ED) modulates these processes in postmenopause, a period with organic changes that increase the risk for metabolic diseases. Herein, we evaluated the effects of BPA exposure on adiposity, glucose homeostasis and hepatic steatosis in ovariectomized (OVX) mice fed on a high-fat diet (HFD).

Estrogens also modulate endocrine pancreas physiology in females during aging; however, the effects of BPA on islet morphophysiology after menopause have not been investigated. We evaluated the effects of BPA exposure on glucose homeostasis and islet morphofunction in ovariectomized (OVX) mice fed on a high-fat diet (HFD).

Principal Component Analysis was performed to verify data variance and correlations among variables. Linear regression decomposition methods were applied to identify trend and seasonal patterns within the time indexed data.

This disease is often characterized by insulin resistance, changes in insulin clearance, and β-cell dysfunction. However, studies indicate that, for T2D development, disruptions in glucagon physiology also occur.

Cellulignin are the solids, which result from the acid hydrolysis of the sugarcane bagasse. The objective of this work was to optimize the enzymatic hydrolysis of the cellulose fraction of cellulignin, and to study its fermentation to ethanol using Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Fed-batch processes were carried out with methanol feeding at each 12 h and recycling cell at 24, 48, and 72 h. Additionally, the influence of the initial cell concentration was investigated.
